I've worked with Hervé Cohen several times and recommend him highly for film work. I came to know him first as a cinematographer, but he's also an accomplished editor with an impressive commercial portfolio and can generally pull all aspects of a project together. I crewed on a feature film for which he was director of photography, and saw first-hand his competence and creativity. The shoot, which lasted months, often required him to wrangle crews of different sizes and shift gears between many types of locations, on short notice. He was always cheerful and patient. More recently, Hervé filmed a performance of my play. He and his crew were efficient and discreet in a small venue, and he cut the resulting two-camera piece together very quickly. He can work solo but also comes with the resources of a production company that's made some beautiful documentaries. Lastly, he is nice to be around and his social graces (in both English and French) can smooth things over on a shoot, in sometimes stressful circumstances. Thumbs up!

Herve was the Director of Photography on my character-driven documentary, Room To Breathe, which premiered at the Mill Valley Film Festival and which went on to win several awards at other festivals. In 2013, the film aired repeatedly on over 120 PBS outlets including in New York City, Los Angeles, Boston, as well as WGBH's The World Channel. Room To Breathe was shot in public school classrooms in San Francisco over a four month period, a very difficult work environment with daily disruptions and numerous visual and auditory challenges. After trying out five other videographers, each of whom really struggled to achieve what I was hoping for, Herve arrived to save the day. He brought a effortless ability to follow the action and the lead characters, deft camera work, and incredibly astute self-direction when needed. He has a gift for understanding the emotional tone of a scene, and gathering the best shots and angles without upsetting the occasionally delicate moment. In addition, Herve is a lovely person, a genuine pleasure to work with. I cannot recommend him highly enough! Russell Long

I have worked with Herve on a number of projects and I can’t recommend him highly enough. First off, as a director, he has a great eye, always finding the best shots to show the story.

After the shoot is done, this precision is continued in editing, where each shot is timed perfectly, creating a visual story that is both unusual and compelling.

If you’re looking for someone to shoot your next story driven commercial or documentary, look no further!
