FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
For private parties, the price is based on the length of the show, the difficulty of set-up/tear-down on site and the travel distance. In general, a 50% deposit is required at the time of booking. Depending on the time of year, this may or may not be refundable in full or in part. The date is not considered booked until this deposit is received (and the performance agreement (contract)is signed by both parties. The balance is due upon arrival at the performance venue and, unless otherwise arranged, must be in cash. If you want the band to continue playing after the scheduled time, an additional fee will be required. All of this will be covered in your performance agreement. If you have any specific requirements you'd like included or are concerned about anything in the agreement, talk to us before you sign it. We're reasonable people. For commercial venues, we conform with entertainment industry standards.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I can't say I came to any kind of decision to play music. That's not how it works. You don't choose music, it chooses you. I come from a very musical family. At a family get-together, there are guitars, horns, woodwinds, violins, bass and many strong singers. I started playing music for money in the 70's as a long haired skinny teenage runaway busking on the streets in Southern California. A few years later, while in the Air Force, I was invited to sing at a festa in Pedalino, Sicily. Thinking "festa" meant "party" like it said in my pocket English-Italian Dictionary, I agreed. I was shocked to find them building staging and a crowd of over 5,000 people assembling. I got a great audience response and I was hooked. I played in many bands in the ensuing decades and filled in in many more after being "downsized" in the early 90's with 6 hungry children to feed. That's about the time I started getting serious about the blues. When I moved to Maine, I searched high and low to find like minded, talented musicians to form a band with. The core group of KFB got together about 5 years ago and we've been playing ever since. We're friends, we're family, we're in it for the long haul. When one of us plays a lick, the other's know where he's bringing it. It's like magic.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
During the late spring, summer and early fall, we play many outdoor shows including festivals, private parties, corporate events, etc. Year-round, we play nightclub engagement, holiday parties and more. We very seldom play weddings unless the clients are very certain that they want a Blues Band. We don't play line dances, "The bride cuts the cake" and that sort of thing. A General Business band is usually better suited, except in those rare instances of rabid blues or KFB fans that know what they want and want The KetchFish Band. We have added an acoustic version of The KetchFish Band (Brightwater Blues) playing similar material. Suitable for venues/events where the full electric band is just a bit too much.
