Introduction: I'm a crash chaser. Well, at least that's what I've been called by a couple of colleagues. You can't blame them though because somehow peak action finds a way into my lens. The Little 500 bike wreck photo in my portfolio has earned me a gold circle award in the sports action category from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. I feel that being able to capture peak action in sports consistently such as crashes transfers well to all photographic genres, because aren't all photojournalists trying to capture Henri Cartier-Bresson's decisive moment during an event? Crashes aren't my only forte. I have a passion for newspaper journalism. I've worked for my college paper, the Indiana Daily Student, as a photographer for the whole four years and was even the photo editor for a semester. It was here where my passion to tell an honest story through my photos grew. This last semester, I was chosen to be part of a new type of class for the journalism school called "words and pictures" -- which is in-depth reporting. This class was designed to promote collaboration by putting together the 16 best photographers and writers into reporting pairs. The pairs then asked to do two stories: a midterm profile story and an enterprise final story. By having an entire semester to work on two stories, I was able to learn the importance of relationships with sources and with your reporting counterpart. I have been trained in photojournalism on my entire collegiate career. I've used college as a means to an end because my goal was to be able to take great images in any and all situations, and I have shot quite a lot of situations ranging from midget wrestling to the Winter X games. For this reason, I have shot freelance for a variety of publications including ESPN.com, Scholastic books, and UrbanVelo magazine. Currently, I shoot with a Nikon D3s and D2x with glass ranging from 1.8-2.8 /f and 24 to 200mm and a 1.4xTC and a speed light. I love tackling new challenges. I want to be a jack-of-all-trades in the photography world. I've excelled in the genre of sports photography, but I'm comfortable with shooting anything. I have vast experience with lighting, Adobe Photoshop, Bridge, and Illustrator. I would like for my next challenge to be working as a photographer in Southern California.
