Question and answer

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. When family caregivers need their questions answered, they need them answered, NOW. They also need them answered in a professional manner by one who has also walked the caregiving road--one who will answer immediately and with empathy.

If you're a CAREGIVER who needs an answer NOW, contact The Caregiver's Voice for an immediate response.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. The impact it has on others...sure this answer sounds trite, but when you're a caregiver with an urgent need and you get an answer immediately, it makes a big difference in your life.

When you're able to pick up the phone and get an answer from someone who has also walked the same road you are now walking, it helps a lot in reducing your stress level and feelings of overwhelm.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. The first time a caregiver called for help...expecting to leave a message with an assistant, the caregiver was flabbergasted to learn she was talking with me.

And why not?

When you're caregiving and have a question, it can't wait. You need an answer NOW.

(To keep up with this service, all we ask is that you make a donation to TheCaregiversVoice.com in advance so that we can continue helping others.)

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. After my father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, I needed help. I shared my caregiving adventures and questions at a weekly support group.

Fellow support group members laughed at some of the adventures and admired my husband's and my ingenuity at coping. They urged me to write a book about our experiences (I had written four books prior). With their continual prodding, I wrote, "Where's my shoes" My Father's Walk through Alzheimer's.

"Where's my shoes?" was the grammatically incorrect question my father asked repeatedly while he lived with us. We'd hide his shoes so he'd have an obstacle to overcome which would delay his attempts to wander (outdoors).

The book answered a need at the time and I was invited to speak nationally.

Then came TheCaregiversVoice.com and the rest is history!

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. YES.

I attend 12- 18 continuing education courses a year. (Since I am not licensed, I don't apply to receive CEU credits.)

I read stay at the cutting edge of my field by reading 100s of articles each month.

Q. Write your own question and answer it.

A. What did you wish for while you were a caregiver?

While I cared for my father, I wished for a 24-hour hotline. (There actually was one based in Florida. Sadly, it went out of business due to lack of funding.)

All I wanted was to be able to PICK UP THE PHONE and REACH an EXPERT who HAD ALL THE ANSWERS. I also needed that expert to TRULY CARE.

I didn't want a "clinical response" or an intern's reply reflecting "book knowledge."

I desperately needed an expert who was vested in my issue because s/he had already walked in my shoes as a caregiver.

And I needed it NOW!

For this reason, TheCaregiversVoice.com offers immediate help. But to continue this service we ask that you first make a donation on our site. (We leave it to you decide what it's worth to you to get the answers you need.)
