About
What I love about what I do is that today is different from yesterday, and tomorrow will be different from today. I recently did a presentation for "Career Day" at a local high school, where they wanted me to describe a typical day. I told the students, "A typical day is that there is no typical day." I love that. I like being out meeting new people and having new experiences. My body needs to be in motion. I start getting irritable if I'm sitting in an chair too long; for example, spending an hour typing up a profile on Thumbtack ;) But some things need to be done. And if sitting in a chair for an hour is what it takes, then sitting in a chair for an hour is what I'll do. I just won't be happy about it, because I'd rather be talking to you.

I had worked with Dawn Benko for many years. Beside being an outstanding photojournalist, Dawn has expanded her expertise into the world of nature photography. I am honored to own one of her beautiful photographic works of art. Dawn possesses an impressive work ethic to match her equally impressive talent.

Dawn came to the worksite and took her time taking photos with great care. The client was very happy with her work. I would definitely use her services again and refer her to others in mt field. Thank you Dawn.

Dawn was terrific! She was very patient and took her time as the house was not prepped for photos as it should have been. The pictures were beautiful and she went over and above for us!

We hired Dawn to photograph my grandmother's 90th birthday party. What a great choice we made! She captured so many emotional and great shots -- our whole family enjoyed the photos. She made sure to get photos of everyone at the party, she took whatever group shots we wanted, and the rest were candids, which is exactly what we had requested. She got us the discs promptly and was extremely responsive throughout the process. Even better, she is a lovely person, and even said goodbye and happy birthday to my grandma on the way out. Simply put, we couldn't be more pleased!

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I tell people that I've pretty much known since I was four, flipping through my mother's National Geographic magazines. To me, photography was magical. It still is.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

I think the biggest thing in this age of selfies and self-proclaimed photographers is that photography--great photography--is more than just pushing a button. Everyone with an iPhone is now a "photographer". At least, that's what people seem to think. The fact of the matter is that photography requires skill and knowledge and instincts and patience. The right equipment helps. But people forget, it's not the camera that "takes really good pictures".
