Introduction: Drum Lessons with Rob Garcia. I teach at my studio in the West Midwood/Ditmas Park section of Brooklyn (near Newkirk Plaza and Ave H). I will also travel to the students and can teach remotely via Skype or Zoom. I teach my students to play the music they like. I encourage self-expression and creativity as well as learning the necessary skills to read and play music with other people. My teaching studio is equipped with two drum sets, piano (I often play piano with the student on drums) and a stereo system. I'm well versed in many popular and not so popular styles of music/drumming (rock, pop, jazz, funk, hip-hop, reggae, Latin, Brazilian, swing, dixieland, drum and bass, to name a few). Bio: Rob Garcia has been teaching drum students (from age five through adult) and working as a professional performing musician for 25 years. He has taught drums as well as jazz and percussion ensemble at the New York Hot Jazz Camp, Berkeley-Carroll School, P.S. 184, P.S. 10, the Brooklyn Music Factory and The British International School of New York. He has done clinics in the U.S. and Europe and has performed in over one hundred school assemblies in the tristate area with organizations such as Arts Horizons and the Brooklyn Arts Council. "A prime mover in the current Brooklyn jazz scene" (Time Out-New York) and "one of New York's great jazz drummers and composers (Capital, New York), Rob Garcia continues to be a strong presence in the New York and international jazz scene as a sideman and bandleader. He has collaborated with such stellar artists as Joe Lovano, Dave Liebman, Wynton Marsalis, Catherine Russell, Vince Giordano, Woody Allen and Joseph Jarman and has played on over 70 albums including grammy winners. Rob's album, "Perennial" (BJUR 012) was in the "10 Best Jazz Albums of 2009" in the New York Observer. His group, the Rob Garcia 4, has performed at venues such as The Ottawa Jazz Festival, Iridium, Smalls, the Kingston Jazz Festival and the Toronto Jazz Festival. Rob has also received grants from Meet The Composer, DCA and NYSCA to support his performances. Rob has also been a major force in artist-run jazz organizations. He is the founder and executive director of Connection Works, a member of the Brooklyn Jazz Underground and a founding member of the Douglass Street Music Collective. In addition to many creative projects, Rob has played on many recordings for TV commercials, TV shows, and major motion pictures. He has a Master of Music from SUNY Purchase (2006).

My son takes drum lessons from Rob and I can't recommend him enough. He is a professional drummer and a professional teacher who has inspired my son to play and practice! Aside from being a patient, engaging and very talented teacher, he has the unique ability to make drum lessons both fun and productive.

Rob is a very patient, informative drum teacher, focused on learning to play music (the FUN part of learning to play drums!). He also teaches how to develop more technical aspects of drumming. I highly suggest Rob if you are just starting out or need to brush up on skills!

Rob has taught my teenage son to play multiple styles, read music, and enjoy going to lessons over the last two years. Rob not only models the drums, but often accompanies my son on piano which makes for a much more lively session, and teaches the give and take of playing with other musicians.
