About
Tempe, Arizona's Body Focus Fitness & Performance is a private group fitness training and personal training studio. Founded by personal trainer Kevin C. Freeland in 2005, the mission from the start was to bring back reality to the fitness industry. To a certain extent, fitness was, and still remains, a sea of false promises and gimmicks based more on marketing compared to exercise science. Fad diets, machines and abdominal gizmos got most of the attention as people bought them, and largely got them nowhere. At Body Focus Fitness we ignored the trends and brought to the general public elite athletic training and real-world fitness. Soon people of all types were enjoying the benefits of our expertise and knowledge. Through our programs busy "soccer moms", runners with nagging injuries, weekend warriors and high-school athletes were improving their form, function and fitness. Word has spread until Body Focus Fitness & Performance became one of the east valley's most famous private fitness facility of its kind.

Kevin changed my life and made me look and feel better than I ever have before. I went in weighing about 150... and wanted to get in shape before my wedding. In less 3 months, I lost 18 pounds and gained muscle in all the right places. (I went 3 times a week for 30 minutes and did not work out on my own beyond that.) He also introduced me to the Paleo diet, which has pretty much solved my former stomach problems. The great thing about Kevin's workouts... he mixes it up and stays away from your traditional weight machines. Instead, he uses kettlebells (my favorite!), giant tires, ropes, a rowing machine, barbells... and much more. As we speak, I'm asking for more workout sessions as a Christmas gift from my husband. I've been miserable without Kevin's workouts and I can't WAIT to return.

Been coming to Kevin for last three years. Love the boot camp style of classes. Exercises combinations never repeated. Always something new for creating muscle confusion. Good combination of strength and cardio training.

There was a time when I didn't think that being in shape was worth my time. More than that I didn't think being in shape was worth the effort. Kevin Freeland taught me that I could not have been more wrong. While I won't say that I *enjoy* working out I will say that I enjoy working out with him. I am currently in the best shape of my life and getting better every day. There was plenty about me that was Busted (yes capital B) but Kevin works tirelessly to address problems in a way that only someone with experience and deep domain knowledge can, and he does it all without judging or pushing. I can't recommend him enough.

I am still kind of new to Body Focus Fitness & Performance; however there is no other place I would rather go! I was looking for a place where I would feel comfortable trying to learn how to work out, a place where not only the instructor but also the members would help me achieve that goal. Kevin is an amazing instructor! He’ll set you up for success! He’ll show you and teach you about your body’s abilities you may have forgotten you have! His routines are intense yet doable! This is my very first time joining a fitness group, I was super nervous thinking that everyone would be so much more advance and yes they are, but they welcome you to their group with no questions asked! So don’t waste your money on expensive gym memberships, come meet Kevin you won’t regret it!

FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

The average client at Body Focus Fitness and Performance is a person just like you. A person who wakes up one day and realizes that they haven't paid proper attention to their health and fitness and that they have "let themselves go". We teach that person how to incorporate proper nutrition and exercise principles into their lives so that they regain that which they have lost, and that they may accomplish more that they can imagine in the future.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

The first three things to look for when choosing a trainer are: education, certification and experience. If a trainer possesses these three things then it is likely that they will have at least a basic competency level. But beyond that it is important that your trainer provide a client focused experience. Too many trainers out there are trying to mold every client into a predetermined image of what they think represents fitness when the truth is that there are many different destinations one may reach on their fitness journey. The best trainers out there work with each client to figure out the path and destination that best suits the individual.
