Kyle Sampson

Introduction: Welcome, For all students, my objective is to expose you to previously unconsidered ideas and work with you to develop the skills that will help open up your unique and creative identity. In teaching children specifically, my fundamental goal is to foster and promote a love of learning. My name is Kyle Sampson, and I am a classically trained performer and teacher who is musically active in various styles of playing. I have performed in masterclasses or in festivals with highly regarded performers such as David Russell, Zoran Dukic, Lorenzo Michelli and Matteo Mela in both the U.S. and Italy and have studied at length under Michael Nicolella in Seattle and Marc Teicholz in San Francisco. I am currently in the studio of David Tanenbaum at the SF Conservatory. I teach beginning through advanced players from a variety of backgrounds and ages, both privately and at a local charter school. My rate is $60 per hour. For the dedicated student, we will focus on the following: * technique * note reading * music theory * solfege and ear training * critical thinking skills which will provide you with the ability to teach yourself over a lifetime. For the beginner, I teach the following lessons: * together we will discover what style inspires you the most * chords (which ones to play, and when to play them in a song) * strumming or finger plucking * how to teach yourself Do you have no guitar? I can assist you in selecting a quality instrument suitable to your budget and needs from one of a few quality music shops in SF. If you are undecided as to whether or not you are ready to purchase an instrument, I can arrange to loan one to you, provided that you have agreed to and paid for at least four, 1-hour lessons. This will be an instrument which is suitable for complete beginners.
