Guitar Lessons by Ian Aquilino

Introduction: I've been a guitar player for most of my life -- I'm 23 and have been playing since I turned 11 or 12. I'm a music lover and have been writing and recording songs for several years now. Guitar is my outlet -- a way to express myself creatively while challenging both my brain and hands. There is nothing that could make me more proud than to be able to extend this knowledge to students and allow them to make guitar a part of their lives. Beginner or intermediate students would be a perfect fit. I have had six years of formal lessons and can teach students both the mechanics and music theory associated with guitar. Like most other guitarists, I prefer to read tablature instead of sheet music. Tablature, or "tabs", is a common system of musical notation used for many stringed instruments. Most guitar songbooks and lesson books use tabs and so do many websites that provide notation for popular songs. I will spend time to teach students to read and write tabs, so that they are proficient in this "musical language." Half-hour or one-hour lessons are available. I would recommend weekly lessons, so that the student has enough time in between lessons to practice before learning new material. All ages are welcome -- children who start to learn music early should be encouraged, but it is never too late to make guitar a part of your life.
