I don't believe in tutoring only to the material which is being learned. Tutoring involves a process of getting from point A to point Z, and being sure that all points in between are reached and understood. To me, the results are important, but without a clearly defined process for getting there, the results can be rather meaningless.
I won't deny that money is not a good help, but my professional satisfaction occurs when I see my students understanding a concept they previously had difficulty grasping. In that case, not only have my students achieved success, but I have also achieved success as a tutor.
I enjoy working with people, especially on a one-on-one basis. This allows me to get a good understanding of who my students are, what their strengths and struggles are, and how I can most effectively help them overcome their challenges.
It is a wondrous thing for me to watch as my students gain the knowledge which had been previously unattainable to them. Knowing that I have played a significant role in their ability to gain that understanding is a significant thrill for me. After all, I want to make a real difference in the lives of my students.
I know that I am a tool which my students utilize in an effort to attain personal and professional growth for themselves. Being able to witness that growth in-person over the course of the tutoring process makes tutoring an enjoyable profession for me as well.
It is often said that one should love what they do, and I definitely love tutoring and working with people.
