My work stands out from others in several ways.
First, both my work as a nutritionist and yoga instructor are based on a coaching model, where I elicit from you or your group what the needs are. You choose the goals to focus on, not I; our sessions are centered on your needs and interests, not mine. Because of my expertise in health, I will take the role of guide and make recommendations, but it is up to you to decide when and how far you choose to go with them. Whatever decisions you make, I am there to support you, not judge you.
Second, I highly value communication as a central tenet of health. This means open communication between my clients and me, and also communication among healthcare providers. I firmly believe that optimal health is most likely to flourish when you have your healthcare providers working together in ways that complement each other. Although it is not necessary, I am always open to talking with your other healthcare providers so that we can work together to support you.
Third, my background includes in-depth study of health at the level of body, mind, and spirit. I acknowledge each person as consisting of more than just a physical self. Our health is strongly influenced by our mental states, social interactions, spirituality, and environment. Over the years I have studied massage therapy, spirituality and health, Ayurveda, yoga, nutrition, and integrative health. I hold a Masters degree in holistic health education with a specialization in nutrition, and am a registered yoga instructor with Yoga Alliance and the International Association of Yoga Therapists. Particularly in nutrition sessions, we will not only discuss your diet, but also how your relationship with food affects other areas in your life.
