FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I prefer charging a flat fee per space. That way the client does not feel the clock ticking on a project and we can relax and enjoy the process. But I will charge hourly if that works better for some clients.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to sit and talk about goals first. How will the client use the space, what is important to them. Then I work to define style. I want to be sure what modern looks like to me is the same as it looks to them, make sure we are talking the same design language. And then I like to just walk around and "feel" the space. Most rooms tell you a bit about what they need. Maybe a piece of art is the inspiration or a special piece of pottery. There is always a jumping off point. Then I create photo collages to communicate my ideas to the client.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering that informs my sense of space, scale and symmetry. ( I still do my scale drawings by hand. I have always loved my mechanical pencils.) I enhanced that with coursework in Interior Design at the Boston Architectural College. I also attend industry seminars, market shows and lectures regularly to keep up on the latest trends and developments in design.
