Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I am sure everyone would like to think that their work ever stands out from another person's. But as a decorator I have come to realise that if you look hard enough there are always similarities. What makes a client choose a particular profession to work with comes down to a few factors that include location, price and ultimately portfolio. If the client likes the designer then that is a huge plus. Besides that when chosen we ultimately give the client what they actually need the most, with the three F's in mind of course and always from my end. I love my job because I am constantly challenged to merge my own very strong visual principles with the ever evolving tastes and desires of the clients that I work with. It is exciting!

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am currently doing a few certifications in interiors and special event and wedding decorating with the QC Design School. That is quite exciting.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I have always loved visual arts and the creation of visual crafts. I used to make clothes for my dolls when I was a child and always wanted to do interiors. So I went to fashion school and gradually transitioned into other aspects of visual aesthetics like most designers do. And in 2012 I decided to launch my own interiors house. It is beautifully hard work. What I care about the most is the end results and that it makes the client happy.

  • Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

Well it is not really a recent job but more of my very first job. It was a four floor brownstone in Harlem and what was challenging about it was all of the woodwork. It was stunning and all brown. As a decorator it will be an understatement to say I dislike brown. Especially when the client does not want to do bold colours and the space is a loft space that includes living, dining and kitchen areas. We did decide to go with the monotone colours and the client did actually love it. There are some things I would do differently now but it was ok for my first job. I did take some bold liberties with the bedrooms though.
