Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I provide primarily Japanese interiors and furnishings. I design and build Japanese architecture and spaces, both inside and out, and construct Japanese traditional cabinetry. I am a joiner in the traditional sense, and a designer at the same time. I lived in Japan for five years, studying the architectural tradition of that nation first-hand. I know my stuff inside and out, and all work is of the highest quality, totally authentic, and without compromise in materials or execution. People appreciate my grasp of the Japanese aesthetic while seeing that I am not bound by it. Clients find me an excellent communicator and a person who follows through on their commitments. What counts is the quality standard of the work and working pleasantly and collaboratively with the client to achieve the best outcome. I can work with your garden designer or provide one when it comes to outside architectural work. Inside, I also design and build Chinese Ming-inspired furniture pieces of ultra-high quality, and have a strong familiarity with 19th century French traditional carpentry work, including staircase building. Consultation services also supplied. CAD drawing services another plus.

Chris is a master craftsman and designer in a world that is rapidly losing the heritage of authentic Japanese building and design. He knows the history, the tools, the methods - and he is the leading expert in this rarefied field. For us, he's been a pleasure to work with, and a wealth of information and ideas.

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Come with an open mind and a willingness to engage collaboratively in a creative process. Anticipate that I draw from a deep well of experience and knowledge as a maker and may be able to provide you with design ideas and directions you had not anticipated. Thus a certain flexibility in approach is often valuable.
