FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I watch all legislative action that would impact fair-housing, landlord-tenant or labor laws in the operation to be sure of being in compliance.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
By accident....I had traded a four unit apartment building that I had purchased and renovated into a six unit building that had a sister six-unit building across the sidewalk from it (it had originally been a 12-unit building) and had remodeled and instilled proper management on my 6-unit only to find the other 6-unit with little management and mostly out of control. I approached the absentee owner and told them I would manage it for free if they would just allow me to get it under control so it wasn't impacting my residents. From that, I started getting calls from other investors and REALTORS who had absentee owners needing management and I opened my own management company in Denver in the late 1970's.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Experience, Experience, Experience will make the temporary transition and any additional benefits the customer might receive the justification for hiring the provider. Residents hate change so the more professional and skilled the transition, the more receptive the residents will be to the changes.
