Introduction: Having studied psychology in school and having been afflicted by both an injury and a neurological condition, I believe strongly in the power of yoga as a healing practice. There is an emerging body of evidence to show biochemical and neurological changes occur in the brain with a yoga or meditation practice. It is a healthful and inherently parasympathetic activity that marries strength and flexibility. It strengthens balance and calms the nervous system. These aspects of asana have huge implications for longevity and physical and mental wellness. I think my faith in practice combined with my sincere passion for my work and care for my students adds something special to my classes. It allows me to always grow. I'm constantly able to look at myself critically and assess the way I interact with the world, working to improve myself when necessary. The feedback I receive from my students does facilitate this process. I get to connect deeply with others who are making a sincere and dedicated effort to do the same for themselves.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

It is a mission of mine to be able to share yoga with underserved populations and many of my clients have special needs (trauma sensitive yoga, yoga for disability, pre and postnatal yoga). I don't want my services to be cost-prohibitive so I work on a sliding scale that takes into consideration both your estimated yearly salary and your level of need. If you make a comfortable living and just need a few sessions to fine tune your practice, I may charge you $100 per hour. If you are disabled and are hoping yoga can help you maintain physical functionality, I may charge you as little as $15 for that same hour.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I do several trainings a year. The practice is old and vast and still expanding. As we come to learn more about anatomy, safe alignment and parallels between an ancient practice and western medicine, I see a great opportunity to integrate the old teachings with new information to create a more holistic way of caring for ourselves.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Know your goals and outline them clearly. Ask your service provider to pitch you an outline of how they'd help you to achieve your goals. I think it's helpful when service providers are very clear about their expectations of their clients in terms of the clients' goal accomplishment.
