About
Before answering this question, I would like to say, that a good freehand drawing from life or several good photos as reference material are needed for producing a quality portrait. The resulting painting reflects the process and style of the artist. I believe a good freehand sketch is necessary to capture the essence of the person being painted. I sketch, and then paint, from a life pose and/or several good photos. A camera produces a photo, while only a human can produce an oil portrait. The question is, do you just want a nice photograph type painting, or do you prefer a beautiful work of art! Don't be fooled, there is a difference! It's easy to love something you're passionate about, and clients who want portraiture done of family and loved ones are wonderful people, and a pleasure to work with.

I think your portraits are brilliant. I loved looking at every single one. The soul of the subject "pops" in an instant glance. There is a special sweetness with the portraits of children. I think besides loving your work, you love people. Thanks for sharing your work online. MBR

You immortalize each of your subjects with such subtle grace and harmony! The portrait is no longer a lost art. A pox upon those that spew that rubbish! This vital form becomes from your hand an expression of the living now and the enduring gift of immortality to those you love. You don't want them to die, do you? I fully endorse capturing those I love (figuratively, of course) in this classic form and Nina Martin's masterful hand can be trusted to preserve the magic of the moment for all time.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Depending on the size, composition and number of subjects, prices vary. Schedule an appointment to discuss pricing for single, double or group portraits, engagement & wedding portraits or animal portraiture. For example, a single head and shoulders pose without a complicated backdrop, would start at 400. I request 1/3 of the balance at the start of any painting, and will tailor a payment plan with your budget in mind.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

Most common are paintings for homes or offices of houses, boats and family, including pets. All vary in size, from very small (2x3inch) to mural size ( 6 x 9') and larger. Illustration work in watercolor, and representational paintings in oil or acrylic depends upon my client's personal needs and requests.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

If you are responding with Thumbtack, review my website information to see how a portrait commission would be done. Do a search using my name to see the sites and my painting style before requesting a quote. Thank you. This saves you time, and helps you decide on the artist of your choice.
