I am a self-taught guitarist who plays in a church worship band. I’ve been taking lesson from Pat for about a year now and have nothing but praise for Pat. His instruction has been outstanding and I couldn’t be happier. Pat has the ability to stretch my playing to areas I never thought where possible. Yet he does it in ways that are fun and exciting. Pat has given me the incentive and desire to practice again. My worship leader should be the one making writing this testimonial, as he has seen a marked improvement in my playing. He is now actually giving me a more active role in our Sunday worship. I strongly recommend Pat to any guitarist looking to improve his/hers playing.

Pat Shelby, Guitar Teacher January 18, 2015 Do you dream of playing the guitar or improving your skills? Please allow me tell you about my experience taking guitar lessons from Pat Shelby. Pat is personable, approachable, and creates such a fun, safe, energetic, yet focused atmosphere, that it is simply a pleasure to practice, try new skills, and look forward to the next step of proficiency. He is a professional musician with awards, CD’s and years and years of experience not only with acoustic guitar, which is what I’m learning, but with bass and electric, as well. He assessed my level, then personalized my lessons to help me achieve my goals, offered up music theory that I could understand, and patiently worked with a learning disability that I have. He used technology to enrich the experience, providing chord charts printed out specific to my songs, arranging guitar music to suit my vocal range so I could sing with it. He sent follow-up lesson notes to me via e-mail, and tracked my progress to keep me moving forward. He also sent Youtube links with lessons targeted to my current skills. I enjoy every lesson with Pat, and also enjoy seeing and hearing his other students at recitals where the students, ranging in age from 6 or 7 years old to retired, perform everything from folk to rock to blues to classical music with the guidance and encouragement of this gifted teacher. Add in flexible scheduling and reasonably-priced lessons, and you may find that your dream of playing or improving at the guitar is about to come true.

Pat Shelby is in the NOW! His unique approach to teaching guitar is second to none, starting his students out with simple techniques and gradually enhancing that technique as the lessons progress. Where Pat really makes it interesting is when he plays backup guitar with his student and then adds a complete ensemble with the help of Garage Band making your child sound like a "rock star"! Words cannot describe the positive energy that a child exudes when they hear themselves for the first time, not to mention the pride in a parent's heart when they hear it. I know, because I am that parent. Pat makes my daughter's lessons exciting and fun. For us parents, an email, Lesson Notes Added, is sent, and a link so you can review what needs be worked on for the week. So, if anyone is looking for an excellent guitar teacher, I highly recommend Pat Shelby.

I first started working with Pat 9 years ago. Before working with Pat, I didn't know how to strum a guitar. After 1 half hour lesson, Pat had me strumming confidently. Over the course of several years, Pat worked with me to continue to develop my skills. I now lead worship for a church of 500+ people, and am continuing to grow in my ability. I would not be able to do what I do today if hadn't been for Pat and his incredible kindness and patience. I have worked with 3 different guitar teachers since I got my first guitar, and Pat is hands down the best I have ever taken lessons from. You will not regret a moment you spend with Pat!

Joel really enjoyed his guitar lessons. He both learned a lot and had a lot of fun. He appreciated your willingness to allow him to have some say in what he wanted to learn but at the same time give direction on what would be good for him to know. Thank you!

FAQs

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

4th or 5th grade is the earliest I recommend students start guitar. I've had students that were younger but they were very enthusiastic about playing. When students reach 10 or eleven years old, their hands are big enough to handle a full size guitar in most cases.
