Introduction: I offer a careful, three-hour piano tuning. I endeavor to maximize the 'luster' in a piano's tuning, and to leave the tuning solid -- steadfast against de-tuning by being played.
I have been tuning pianos in the Providence - Newport - New Bedford area since 1987. I've had the privilege, working for a prominent area music store, of being sent to tune for Tony Bennett, Linda Eder, and Rufus Wainwright, as each appeared in the area, and I obtained clients who call me regularly for tuning.

Eric Kirkwood has been the tuner for all of my pianos since meeting him in 2005. The church for which I am the music director had just purchased a brand new 7.5 ft Yamaha grand. He came along as the technician for Yamaha and I have never let him go. He now also tunes three other pianos at the church, and my home piano, and friends and students who are seeking a tuner always get refereed to him. I used to give the names of two other local tuners over the past 30 years, but neither of them had the talent Eric possesses and neither seemed to stick to the task until the instrument played perfectly. I find that Eric will sometimes still be in the church for more than 3 hours, always working. He just will not settle for a string which is making a buzzing sound, or a string which is not easily tuning. When he is finished tuning, the piano holds its tune far longer than I ever recall pianos holding their tuning with other tuners I've used. We have saved hundreds of dollars each year at church because his pianos hold so well and I do not need to call him very frequently. Combined with a good climate control system on our church piano, we are able to make do with 2 tunings a year. This is almost unheard of. The piano is used in all rehearsals every week and all Masses each weekend (4) as well as weddings, funerals and any other special liturgy we may use it for. It is a very healthy instrument, thanks to Eric. Eric Kirkwood is also a gentleman, who speaks gently and is a quiet worker. Give him the time he needs, and stay out of his way, and he will tune your piano like it has never been tuned before. By the way, get to know him too. He is a delightful man.
