Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I have worked in-house, at an agency and have owned my own business for a number of years. Seeing the industry from many different sides gives me a more thoughtful perspective. I bring that "keep it simple" principle to my consulting work. Right now, there are more options than ever in the marketing and PR game. With social becoming more ubiquitous there is a lot going on. Especially for smaller or new business owners it can get really noisy really fast. It's easy to get a bit overwhelmed. But, all of the pieces still fit together in the same traditional ways. There is no need to get fancy -- but you can save yourself a lot of money by leveraging today's technology to do the heavy lifting. That's where I come in. I know where to trim the fat and create a plan that works. Plus, since I know how to run a business the plan is going to accomplish your business goals. Too often, junior or new strategists will take a box off the shelf and say, "There you go, it worked for everyone before you. This is what you need." That's the wrong way to make a business decision. And, it's definitely the wrong way to sell. I like creating something that works to improve a business. When someone comes to me and says they increased their sales, that makes me so happy. I literally dream about ways to make it easier for people to market themselves better. That, and writing. I love my work. As a result I'm very good at it.

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Ask a lot of questions. Make them walk you through the project step-by-step. Look at their LinkedIn profile and Google their work.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

One analogy I always give is that of an oil change. It's a pretty simple thing: you unscrew a cap, drain, and dump another can in. But--you never do this yourself. Why? There are crucial elements that are easy to screw up and we're talking about screwing up a major investment, your car. PR and marketing is like that, too. Yes, some parts of it are easy. You can write a release about a new hire. You can write a blog post. But--there are elements of it that can really screw up the major investment you've made in your business. So, consult a professional. It doesn't have to be expensive. Just like an oil change shouldn't cost $1,000--you don't have to pay $1,000s for marketing to get it done well.
