FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Photography and videography CAN be complicated to price. In almost EVERY case, it is a custom service. There are many many variables: what skills are required, how unique is the final product, how long will it take, what equipment is needed, how many images or how long a video, how much music is to be used, how complicated are the graphics, what additional retouching or compositing will be done, how will the final project be used... some services can be well-defined and thus their prices set, but there is rarely ever a one-size-fits-all "day rate" or "hourly fee" or "per image cost".
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Technology in this field changes very rapidly. To keep up, I regularly view training videos on Lynda.com, read trade magazines for product reviews and technique tutorials, and attend workshops and seminars. I also maintain Adobe Certified Expert status in their Lightroom v5 product, and am working towards similar certification in other software applications. I teach small groups and offer 1-on-1 consultation in software and hardware, which forces me to examine my own skillset and keep them tuned, current, and complete.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I've loved photography since I was a young kid. I've always been involved in some sort of visual media, from high school and local cable access to corporate and industrial video production. I also traveled for the purpose of nature photography for years. When an opportunity came up with a friend to turn my hobby and passion into a side business, I jumped at it. Years later, I worked to transform it into a full-time business. It's been an exciting, stressful, rewarding, organic growth process!
