FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I actually am a Minister of The Universal Life Church and network with over a 1000 members who perform wedding ceremonies of every type (secular, religious, gay, lesbian) and I always have all of that resource and guidance at my disposal to keep things versatile and fresh. I also always keep track of the rules and any changes that occur in the marriage laws in NY.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have quite a few friends and family members who either did not want to have the traditional church wedding, or were in committed gay or lesbian relationships and now that it is legal in NY to get married, they had a hard time finding someone who would marry them, so I decided to become an Officiant so they would have someone they knew and trusted who would happily do it for them. Up until now, the only option they had was City Hall and that is so impersonal.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Start searching early, ask questions and go with the person who you feel comfortable with and who "fits" with your personalities.
