Introduction: In my lessons, I try to balance improving the student's technical abilities on their instrument, while developing their knowledge of music theory and working on the music that the student is doing currently in their ensembles. These can often be tied in together so that at any point in their music they can figure out what they are doing, how they should do it, and why they are doing it the way they are. I've found that when my students are able to understand all of this their skills develop very quickly.
I make my lessons fun as well as challenging. I realize that not all students are going to go on to be professional musicians so I make sure that the student learns and develops aspects of music such as confidence, the ability to teach yourself, and problem solving skills that are applicable to pretty much anything in life.
I love when a student is able to accomplish something that they had been struggling to do for a while. I also really enjoy when a student is able to combine material that we work on with their own creativity to learn something new and unique to them.
