Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: The biggest thing that sets us apart from others in our field is our experience in all aspects of putting on an event. We have experience as event planners, coordinators, directors and as entertainment vendors, so we know the importance of preserving the schedule and theme of an event. We know how to read the energy or spirit of an event and point it to where it needs to go. We are also performers and competitors so we place high importance on practice, preparation and execution. There are two things that I love about my job. 1. Weddings. I love weddings anyways, but moreso as a DJ because I become part of the best day of someone's life and it is evident from the glow and the smiles on people's faces. 2. The energy exchange between me, the music and my audience. I see it as a partner dance where I am the lead, the crowd is my partner and the songs and transitions that I make are my "moves".

Roy Samson is one of the best DJ's you will ever hire! My husband and I hired him for our wedding for the ceremony at the Disneyland Hotel and the reception at the Grand Californian Hotel. Organization can be tricky at two different locations but Roy pulled it off seamlessly! Not only that, prior to the wedding, he personally worked with us to ensure that the version of each song we chose (i.e. first dance, entrance music, ceremony music) was the right version or the version we liked. He even offered song selections & suggestions for when I walked down the aisle. It was a beautiful classic piano piece that was picture perfect vs. walking down to "You & Me" by Lifehouse. Not that there was anything wrong with that song, it's just the piano pience was beautiful! Roy is definitely passionate about music and his job as a DJ. Plus, he is dedicated to ensuring that your event goes off with a hitch with great beats and great sound! Whatever music style you like, he's got it up his sleeves!

We had the pleasure of listening to Roy's excellent DJing at a recent swing dance special event. He played music that kept people on the dance floor before and after the band played and during the band breaks... and everyone had a fantastic time, dancing to the fun music! There were times after songs ended that folks would break out in applause... I did that several times and each time, it'd take me a second to realize I was clapping to DJed music :-) At one point, I mentioned to my husband, "People are clapping more now than for the band." :-) (And please note - the band was in EXCELLENT form this evening.) My husband and I were talking about how great the dance event was on the drive home and we both agreed the DJed music was part of the reason... the music Roy played was varied, fun and GOOD!

Roy was the right DJ for our first Hangar Dance at Planes of Fame. He was professional and well prepared for the evening! He kept the dancers hopping when the band wasn't playing and kept them going until we had to kick people out at the end of the night. We would be thrilled to have Roy come back for future events!!!!!

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I keep up to date on the latest top 40 hits from the US as well as the UK. I research what is trending online and I also consult and take lessons with more experienced DJ's.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

You want a DJ who can read the crowd. When you meet with a DJ for a consultation and they don't seem like a good listener, then they probably won't be "listening" to their audience when they're spinning their tunes. Make sure they are paying attention to what you want and need.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

DJ's, MC's and event coordinators tag-team the event. The DJ controls the front end with the mic and the music while the Coordinator works the back-end to make sure the logistics are taken care of. If one is weak, the other usually picks up after them. If both are good, then you will barely notice that they're even there.
