Introduction: Los Chamanes is a musical group serving a fusion rooted in Nueva Cancion and Latin-American folklore, with flavors of jazz, rock and blues that was born from the spirit of friendship between these Chilean expatriates in NYC, a nostalgia for the magic of the Andes and their native culture. In September 2008, they released Conjuros—their first album—available on digital downloads and CD. Initially, the band interpreted songs from authors of Argentina and Chile such as Fito Páez, Violeta Parra, Peteco Carabajal, Victor Jara, Congreso, etc. With time, they have increasingly combined their own compositions—which now represent almost all of their repertoire—through which they hope to guide their listeners to reflect on issues such as our behavior as a species and social injustice through the healing and inspiring power of music and poetry. Los Chamanes hold a residency monthly at Terraza in Queens, and have entertained at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe and for the Chile Independence yearly event in Randall's Island. They were the opening act of the concerts of Mariana Baraj and Fernando Ubiergo, and have appeared in various "peñas" (folkloric shows), cafés, restaurants and events in the NY Tri-State area. In 2009, they were on a tour twice in Puerto Rico. They performed at the Noche de Viaje Cultural, at an event organized by the Chilean community in association with the city and in Old San Juan. They were invited at the TV show, Buenas Noches con Silverio on Canal 13 and on 2 radio shows of the University of PR. They've recently contributed to various benefits for the victims of the tsunami and earthquake in Chile.
