- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I've always wanted to make a difference in people's lives. And while I went along and decided to teach myself how to live a healthy lifestyle, I thought it was selfish of myself to not share my knowledge with others who were not as lucky to be as self-motivated as I. I've always felt that I have the ability to be a good leader, so becoming a personal trainer was a good fit.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
You need to work with someone you feel comfortable with. Sure, the trainer is there to push you because exercise is work, and we all need a little help with motivation at times, but a workout should be enjoyable as well. When the workout is finished, there should be a sense of accomplishment and a feeling like their time and money was well spent. If the customer isn't getting this feeling from time to time, they are working with the wrong person. The
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
That all fitness professionals had a starting point of their own. It can be a little demoralizing to the customer when the trainer performs a task fairly easily, but then he/she has a difficult time replicating that action. What the customer needs to realize though is that at one time, the trainer struggled with those same things. It's only through practice and education that we excel at of our craft.
