FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
It depends on the work, but if it's a writing project, I create an outline. Once we come to an agreement on that--and I understand the client's tone and goals for the piece--I get started with research and writing. I submit the first draft, and we go through one to two revisions to get the work to where the client wants it.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have an MFA in creative writing and a BA in English and graphic design. I've been working in marketing communications as a strategist, writer, and editor for about the past ten years. The same is true of my fiction editing work. I've worked with authors since my grad school days.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
It almost seems like an accident. People identify me as the knower of writing rules - they're always asking questions or sending me links to articles about grammar or funny writing jokes or even writing- and editing-themed products - and started to ask me to edit their dissertations and proposals. I eventually moved onto editing more fiction works, although I'm happy to help with more academic pieces and non-fiction.
