Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: Do you want to learn some music? Do your kids want to learn music? Do you want your kids to learn music? Those are entirely different questions from whether they want to learn, as I know very well. Whichever it is, let's see if I can help you. I began teaching part-time out of a studio sometime around 2002. Working part-time at the studio quickly became full-time, and after a couple of years, I started offering house calls. Pretty soon, I gave up the studio as everyone seemed to prefer the convenience of having me come to them. I don't mind doing it as it gives me a few minutes to relax and prepare myself for the next lesson while driving from place to place. I make house calls to most of the Anchorage Area and depending on your needs, I can offer lesson scheduling on a regular or flexible basis. Contact me to discuss specifics. So, if you'd just as soon avoid the rush-hour traffic and have the music teacher come to you, read on and see what I have to offer. About lessons with me: Music is fun and despite the fact that one is engaged in learning, lessons should be too. To that end, I teach people the basics and help them work on whatever type of music most interests them. I don't talk down to people or whack anyone's wrists with a ruler; in fact, I'm the antithesis of the stereotypical "strict old lady" neighborhood piano teacher. I'm more of a "positive encouragement" kind of guy. Don't get me wrong. I do expect and require students to practice, and in the case of kids under 13 or so, that generally means the parents have to assist in making practice a regular part of the schedule, but I set reasonable goals, which if followed, will result in steady progress. I recognize that each person learns differently, so I try to tailor lessons to the particular needs and goals of the student, but I also strongly believe in the importance of developing effective learning and study habits, which can greatly increase the amount one can accomplish during a practice session. The lessons I offer are as follows: 1. Piano lessons I offer piano lessons for all ages, beginner to advanced. The lesson include: classical, jazz, blues, ragtime, rock, new age, country, TV and movie themes, video games, or whatever else someone wants to play. I focus on developing basic musical literacy: reading notes, counting rhythms, proper techniques, scales, theory and ear training. I generally use the Alfred or Bastien piano methods, supplemented with various sheet music, exercises, and work pages. I also strongly encourage improvisation and composition and teach MIDI sequencing and basic digital audio recording/mixing for those who are interested. Recitals are occasional and optional although again, I strongly encourage participation to develop performance skills. 2. Guitar lessons I teach guitar lessons to all ages, beginner to intermediate. It is roughly the same approach as piano but much easier to hang from a strap around one's neck. If you're looking for a great experience in music education for yourself or your children, I'll be happy to see if I can assist you. Lots of more information are available upon request, so contact me anytime. If I'm teaching or otherwise engaged, I'll get back to you as soon as I can. I look forward to hearing from you!
