Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. When hiring a designer it is important to look at several things. First is their portfolio. By starting here you can see if the style of their work appeals to you or would work in your market. Second look at their experience. Have they done the kind of work you want done before. If so, what were the results. Third you'll want to find out how well they communicate by speaking to them and their current or former clients. If you can't communicate with your designer, you'll have one headache after the other and there is a good chance you'll be disappointed with the end product. Fourth, ask them about their weaknesses. Everyone has them. Do they outsource them to other professionals. And if so, who are they and why do they use them. And last but not least, you'll want to find out about their billing, contracts, and file back up policy.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. If you've never worked with a designer or a design company before, it is always smart to spend some time researching the market. Look at the going rates in your area and do some research on the web for best practices and what to expect from a designer.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. Can I see your portfolio?
Can you give me some contact information for your current or former clients?
What is your experience in this area?
What is your hourly rate and estimate?
How do you do your billing?
What kind of files will you provide us with?
How long will you keep our files so that we have access to them?

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. What is it that you need? A logo, a brochure, a website, a brand identity, social media identity
What is your budget?
How soon will you need it?
Who will be involved in the decision make process?

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. At Directional Design we not only have 10 years of experience working in graphic design and marketing, but we provide personal and private attention at a level that few others can. This is because we are selective in our clientele and only take on a few clients at a time whose projects we feel we can get behind and support on a personal level. With us, you're not just a number or just a job with a paycheck. You are a person or group of people with an important need that we want to fulfill in a professional and caring way. Your initiative's success directly reflects our work for you, so it's in our best interest to give you all we've got so you can succeed.
