Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Ask a lot of questions. Make sure when you hire somebody that they understand you and you are able to communicate effectively what you want built.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. You've got to know how to think like the user, designing a website or app thinking like a developer is easy but designing something for anybody is not so easy. You've got to think intuitively and know how to get a lot done with your app but not overload the user with complicated systems.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. The customer should know what it is that they want built before coming to me to have something built. A vague idea is good if you just want consultation on how to design a business app, but coming up with a general idea and wanting it built are two different things. There are many important steps that go into designing a good business concept before actually having it built, neglecting those steps almost always leads to failure.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I pride myself on creativity and quality and enjoy the work I do. I want each job to be better than the one before it and I love to see the product when it is finished.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I love working with people and taking something from a simple idea or concept and turning it into reality. I also enjoy the creative challenge that each project presents.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Can you do this or can you do that? That is the question I get the most, and what I always tell them is this, "If you can think of it I can do it." If I don't know how to do something I will figure it out and after nearly a decade I have yet to have a client that I have let down.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. It's important that customers understand the product they want built before they come to me. A lot of times people come in with business ideas that they have not thoroughly thought out so it becomes a mess when they change their mind halfway through the project.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I've always been interested in computers and so naturally when the internet first came out I rushed to figure out how websites worked and how servers were able to communicate with other computers. Since I started out young, computer languages evolved to be like second languages to me.

Q. What are your most common types of jobs?

A. The most common jobs I get are just simple website designs. Other common jobs include consultation, web apps, logo design, illustration and business card designs.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. I am constantly researching the latest trends on the internet. I do this by searching through hundreds of blogs and websites a day, going to conferences, networking with colleagues in the industry, and working on side projects that push the limits of where technology will go.

Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

A. I'm really excited about mobile and cloud technology. I have been wanting computers to go this direction for a long time, and I think that the internet and computers in general will continue to expand out of the box. I envision a future where the cyber world and the real world become one and the same.

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. Don't ever give up. Computers can be very frustrating machines but if you keep working at it eventually you will figure it all out.
