I admired the communication Amari gave me from the start to the finish of her visit. It was especially important for me because she was in Little Rock and I was in Atlanta trying to get someone for my neice who was getting married. Amari excepted 4makeovers for a wedding at the last minute even though she already had a wedding party to do. She is amazing!!!And she was on time at 6 oclock in the morning, how is that for customer service. The bride and her 3 brides maids were beautiful.Simply Amazing Amari.

Amari is truly talented and easy to work with. She was very accommodating for me and my group in helping us prepare for an event. She takes your features into considerate and also your comfort level with colors and things. I would definitely recommend her for your next event or just because!

I have called Amari B. for a couple of events that I've attended. The fact that she turned to a shelf of (what looked to me) hundreds of shades and picked the perfect match for my skin was impressive! She asked what colors I was wearing that night and coordinated my makeup to the tee! I told her that I knew NOTHING about makeup, so she explained and described everything she did and used. I will definitely use her services again and recommend her everyone.

I have worked professionally with Amari on photoshoots, at fashion shows, and other various events for years. As a model, you feel more like her canvas than just another face in the lineup. She is the essence of a true makeup artist. Her work is phenomenal. I would highly recommend her for any of your makeup or beauty needs! She is the essence of a true artist. Plus you will not meet a kinder soul with this much talent anywhere else.

Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. I perform weddings mostly and fashion shows. I would like to do more before and after makeovers for the common woman, not models.

Q. Describe three recent jobs you've completed.

A. New York Fashion week for Korto Momolu of Bravo's Project Runway, Fashion photo shoot for the "Under Armour - Strength is Beauty" campaign of Monica Hargrove (Olympic Track and Field Silver Medalist), and a Fashion show to raise money for the CARTI foundation and Cancer research.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Please treat me with the professionalism and courtesy that I will give to you. Also understand that makeup service is not there to mask your flaws, however to enhance your natural beauty. I am providing a service just like your hair stylist or nail technician and there are skills I have been blessed with that I was placed here to bless you with. I just desire to be treated fairly and paid for the amazing service I will provide.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. How to cover acne spots without using a lot of makeup. In addition to having a quality product you must also have good tools. Brushes are the key.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. The client should desire to know what types of products the makeup artist uses and what are their methods to sanitize their brushes and products. They should also determine what services they offer.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. If they desire a professional artist to provide an amazing look for them that will be complimented and captured flawlessly in photography and the investment in which they desire to make to ensure this occurs.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I create flawless makeup looks that are inspired by the client's personality and fashion style. Most of my clients love their makeup so much they try to keep the look into the next day. I explain to them that skincare is the most important step for enhancing the already beautiful "you"!

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Being able to build the client's confidence through enhancing their physical appearance.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. What kind of makeup do you use? I use a variety of professional products from MAC cosmetics, NARS, Urban Decay, Bobbi Brown to NYX, Cover Girl or Revlon. I am a product junky and am always looking for new and innovative products.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. There was a client who had severe dark circles under her eyes. She constantly struggled to cover them, but always had too much makeup on and it would cake up under her eyes. I was able to cover them with little product and it took years off her look. She felt amazing and I did also to see how that impacted her self-image.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. I am totally focused on makeup artistry and while I enjoy having multiple skills I am dedicated to this profession. It frustrates artists when people diminish the importance of our role and try to avoid paying for our services. Weddings photographs, fashion shows, editorial images, TV shows, movies, etc. all come to life because of makeup artists. So please recognize and give just as much appreciation for our service because it is vital.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. During high school a friend of mine had a skin condition called, Vitiligo, and her natural skin complexion was dark and the other side of her face was white. She was very shy and standoffish and once I was able to provide a cohesive skin color it really helped her come out of her shell. I felt really good knowing that she became a confident woman to this day.

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. I take pride in my work and we are not leaving until all parties involved are satisfied therefore I have never done a job I was not proud of.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. I absolutely love learning new techniques. I am constantly looking for opportunities to enhance my skill base and service offerings. From private makeup sessions with Celebrity makeup artists to other Professional MUA courses offered by major cosmetic lines.

Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

A. Makeup for men is definitely the new wave that will come about in 2014. Designer Marc Jacobs has started this revolution and it will debut in 2014. I is more than skincare and the line will consist of brow tamers, eye shadows, eye liners, and lip conditioner. It is not geared specifically towards the gay male, but however the metro sexual fashion forward male as well who is not afraid to enhance their look. When we see men on television and film or in print ads they are always wearing makeup so this is not necessarily new, but the packaging and advertisement will bring it into the light and broaden the customer base. This will open a whole new demographic for clientele.

Q. Describe your most recent project, what it involved, how much it cost, and how long it took.

A. My most recent project was the "Strength is Beauty" tour with Monica Hargrove. I began makeup at 3am and did not finish until 7pm. Monica had several TV appearances, school visits, and ended with a Fashion Photo Shoot. The day consisted of 5 makeup looks. With travel, photography, product and services the entire project was over $1000 for the day.

A. You must be passionate, creative and willing to persevere. There is a lot of competition in this industry, but your personality and attitude will determine your longevity and career growth
