FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Lesson Tuition: 30 minute lesson = $20.00 45 minute lesson = $25.00 60 minute lesson = $30.00 First three months: 30 minute lesson = $15.00 45 minute lesson = $20.00 60 minute lesson = $25.00 Travel reimbursement is based upon the mileage that the teacher travels round trip to the student's location, which varies from town to town. Usually, the prices range from $5.00 to $20.00 per week. Also, music method books and other music related materials are paid by the teacher, and then the total amount will be stated on the next monthly invoice, which the student/parent will pay to reimburse the teacher. Choosing the right lesson length is based on attention span. I recommend for children to take a half hour lesson, and for adults to take an hour lesson.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I begin by utilizing the interview process. I orient my future student with the expectations for their lessons, and the payment process. I also get to know my future student by asking specific questions to help me find the right piano method book for the student. I ensure that lessons can be fun despite the material. During the lesson, I ask the student about what they worked on during their practices. The student then showcases their work; I praise them for what they have done (even if it is a very small achievement), and then I work with the student in refining the piece. In some lessons, I have the students do different things musically (dancing, singing, music theory, music history, ear training) to incorporate an all-around musical individual.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I taught for two months as a 7-12 substitute music teacher at Subiaco Academy, which is where I taught choir and piano lab. I taught one year as a K-12 music teacher at Hughes School District, and one year as a K-5 music teacher at Warren School District. For private piano lessons, I taught eleven students ranging from four years old to over 80 years old. After I complete my first two years of teaching in the public school system, I aspire to acquire a master's degree in teaching (possibly music related).
