About The Pampered Pooch

hired 5 times on Thumbtack

Grooming is my passion and I have more than 15 years of experience. My speciality is hand scissoring (I owned 4 Bichons), but I offer breed clips as well. I offer two distinct services: a complete style and a mini groom. Both services include a bath, fluff dry, ears, nails and teeth done.

The difference is in the haircut:
*the complete includes an all-over body haircut.
*the mini includes hair cut only to neaten the face, feet and sanitary
*those areas which start looking shaggy first.

I offer competitive pricing and excellent service and my work is guaranteed. I have flexible hours to accommodate your busy schedule.

References and additional pictures available upon request: groomer, bather, pet stylist, grooming.

We now offer boarding.

Don't send your pet to the kennel or left home alone waiting anxiously at the window for the pet sitter, bring him/her to The Pampered Pooch for the ultimate in boarding experience. Your pet will be welcomed into my home as if he/she were my own. I have a large backyard for playtime and will include your pet in my nightly one-mile walk with my own dogs if acceptable to you. On longer stays and again with permission, we will take a field trip to Cosmo Dog Park for some real playtime.

Your Pampered Pooch will be allowed to roam throughout my home and live amongst us like family. Your pet must be socialized (other dogs, cats, kids) and house broken. You provide food, toys, treats, bed and anything else that will make your pet less stressed during your absence.

I've had owners bring articles of their clothing for their pet's comfort. Nightime is the only time your pet will be contained in a gated area, as are mine. Never caged or kenneled unless that is what your pet is used to and prefers in which case you must provide their crate.

I only board one family at a time so your pet will never get lost in the mix. Competitive rates with multi-pet family discount. References available upon request.

Call me to schedule a "Meet and Greet' today for your future boarding needs.

Deborah is very professional and I can see she truly cares about my dogs. I have two labradoodles which can be challenging to groom. I love the fact that she does this from her home where she can focus on just my two babies without other dogs or distractions around which can be very stressful for my dogs. I would highly recommend her if you want your dogs to have a fun pleasant experience and a good grooming experience. ;o)

Deborah has got to be the best groomer I have taken my Schnauzer to. She grooms one dog at a time so she is never rushed. What is most important "Chiquito" is not reluctant to being with her. I would recommend Deborah. A true pet lover!

We have 2 little Papillons and they don't need regular grooming like some breeds, but they do need their nails trimmed. Deborah comes to my house to do them. She is wonderful with Reggie and Toby and they really like her which is most important. I am disabled and it's hard for me to get out with both of them, so I really appreciate her coming here and her prices are very reasonable.

Thank you, Sally. I always enjoy seeing Toby and Reggie. They are full of energy and personality!

Since we adopted Charlie in November 2011 he has only known one groomer ... Deborah. Not exactly sure what we wanted for Charlie, we left it up to Deborah to suggest ways to groom him based on his profile. She has done a wonderful job explaining and showing us different options. Every time we bring Charlie over we are excited about seeing the results. And Charlie appears to be happy when visiting also. I feel Deborah pays attention to detail and actually builds a relationship with Charlie like he's part of the family.

I was referred to Deborah by a close friend of mine. I've taken my Mini-Schnauzer to several groomers in the area, Deborah is the best by far. She is professional and provides a clean environment for your pet. I can see that Deborah loves what she does and takes pride in her work. My baby looks great!
    Thank you Deborah!

Question and answer

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I take great pride in my work and it shows not only in the actual grooming style but mainly in the demeanor of the pet when the owner picks up. They are calm and happy!

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Obviously I enjoy the meeting the animals and creating a unique style for each of them. Talking with the owners and getting a feel for the pets' character and likes and dislikes is always important. I've cultivated many friendships along the way and still remain in contact with clients who 'gave me my start' :~)

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. The question I get the most from customers/owners at the time of pick up is "how was he/she"? I think it's imperative that the owner know if there was a behavioral problem which can sometimes be addressed and rectified at home. An example would be a dog who bites over nails. Often times if the owner simply 'plays' with the dogs paws during quiet times at home, it makes a tremendous difference.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. In 1995 back in Georgia I owned 4 Bichons. It requires a great degree of skill to groom a Bichon to show standards. After repeated disappointments with various area groomers, I decided the old adage was true..."if you want something done right, do it yourself". And I did :~)

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. A man brought his frightened matted smelly Shih Tzu to me. The coat was SO matted to the skin, I had to use a surgical blade to remove. The dog became agitated and seemed to be in pain around the hips and tail. Turns out he was infested with maggots who had rubbed his skin nearly raw!!! I have never seen a dog happier to be groomed. Although he left my home bald, he had come out of his shell and left happy with tail held high and wagging.

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. You definitely have to love the animals and love what you do to be successful in this industry. Unfortunately, I have run across groomers to whom that did not apply. It can be a dirty, thankless, underpaid and dangerous trade, but at the end of the day the reward is in the happiness you bring to not only the owners but the pets.
