Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. A) It is very dangerous working from a ladder, espeically when reaching.

B) It is also very dangerous working with pressurized painting supplies. A small mistake can cost you an arm or hand from paint poisoning if a hole is accidentally blown into your skin.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. "You get what you pay for " directly impacts the painting trade. You can get a couple of cheap laborers to throw up some paint, that will look exactly what they did.

Instead, get a tradesman, a journeyman who knows how to work efficiently, precisely and accurately to increase the value of your property.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. What kind of paint to use? It depends upon the surface you are covering, and how dirty you think it might get. Do you just want to wipe it clean, or scrub it?

How many coats will it take to cover a color? Depends upon the color, but dark colors like navy and brown may take as many as four quality coats of paint.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. My brother and I were known as "the firemen" by the professional builders in Vermont and New York, because we could get a big job done accurately, fast, and in time looking good.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. It is a family trade. My father Donald Johnson, started the professional painting and decorating organization in Phoenix back in the 1980's. There is also still a Professional Johnson Painting Company in Tucson operated by my uncle.
