Here's my bio:
Paul-Eirik Melhus is a freshman at Arizona State University. He plays saxophone, and, at 18, Paul has experienced various musical programs already. He performed with the Marshall Ranch Elementary Jazz Band in his earlier days which was chosen to perform at the IAJE Festival in Long Beach, California, the first elementary jazz ensemble in Arizona to receive such an honor. While performing with the high school jazz ensemble at Deer Valley High School, he was chosen to play at The Next Generation Festival in Monterey where they awarded 4th place in the big band division. The band was later accepted into the Midwest Clinic located in Chicago towards his sophomore year. Paul was invited to play nationally with the Jazz Band of America under the direction of Ron Mccurdy, with Wynton Marsalis as guest artist.
He was later picked out of 17 students around the country to join in 2007 and 2008 the Brubeck Summer Jazz Colony with faculty like Joe Gilman, Ray Drummond, Frank Morgan, Anton Shwartz, Willie Jones III, Bart Marantz, Ed Soph, and Marvin Stamm. Paul played lead tenor in 2009 while performing with the Monterey Next Generation Jazz Orchestra and toured with the band through Pittsburg, Kansas City, Chicago, Cincinatti, and Washington DC. The band culminated the tour playing with special guest artist Wynton Marsalis at the 2009 Monterey Jazz Festival.
Paul is currently studying with Bryon Ruth at ASU.
