A. Do your research and ask for referrals! When hiring a makeup artist it's important to ask for the artists style, preferences, products used and influences because it comes through in their makeup performance.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. I wish a customer would know that makeup is only as good as the skin it goes on! If you want flawless skin in your wedding pictures-please take the time in the weeks before the wedding to do facials, hydrate, and most of all-do not pop a pimple! Go see a dermatologist to have it professionaly extracted-most hotels that host weddings have a spa with an esthetician who can extract a pimple on the wedding day. It's worth the small expense to have a blemish that can be covered better than a oozing red sore.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. The consumer should be asking questions like interviewing a friend-if it's wedding makeup, this artist is going to be in the room with you while you are getting dressed for your wedding and you need to feel very confident with the artist.

If you are interviewing an artist for a professional photo, or video production: you want an artist who has a vision of what the makeup should look like, as well as the tools and product to achieve the look and be professional at all times.
