I've been teaching private piano lessons for over 11 years now, and I just love my students. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Piano Performance in 2005, and I teach ages 5 to adult, beginners to advanced.

During lessons, we work together on note-reading, rhythm, dynamics, expression, and all the other fun little details that make music so enjoyable. Music theory—how music is written and structured—is also an important part of each lesson. Every student is different, and I tailor books and teaching methods according to the student's needs.

I currently have openings on Monday afternoons from 3PM-5PM, and all weekday mornings from 10AM to 1PM to accommodate home-schooled students and others who are not in school during those hours.

Lessons are given weekly, and are $20 per half hour. Students are responsible for the cost of books.

Please feel free to email, call, or check out my website for more information. I look forward to hearing from you.

Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. You really want to find a music teacher who matches your (or your child's) learning style, someone passionate and in tune with each student's individual needs.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I've loved music since I was very young, and sharing my passion with others is extremely rewarding. I've worked with all kinds of students, from age 5 to adult, and over the years I've learned the importance of tailoring my teaching style to individual students' needs—go faster or slower, change the material, keep them challenged and engaged, and above all, keep them enjoying it.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Working with so many different interesting and quirky students, sharing my love of music with them, and getting to slip into Super Music Nerd zone when they ask me questions. I get really excited when my students get excited, and love it when the light bulb goes off in their head and everything suddenly clicks for them. So awesome and rewarding!

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Most common question is: How often should I practice?

For beginners students (especially small children), I recommend 15 minutes a day for at least 5 days a week; for intermediate students 30 minutes a day; for advanced anywhere from 45 minutes to a couple hours a day, depending on skill level, difficulty of the music, and personal goals.

It's also super important to know HOW to practice—haphazardly stumbling through a song once does not count as practicing. You have to stop and work on all the hard bits, and then work them slowly into the easy bits, so eventually the whole piece flows together smoothly.
