Melissa Black is by far one of the most professionally renowned singing coaches and vocal trainers in Arizona and is well-known in other parts of the U.S.

Not only is she a voice teacher and vocal coach, but Melissa is an accomplished pianist as well, specializing in pop, rock, country, and Broadway.

Melissa plays by ear, does on-sight transpositions of all of your favorite songs, and acts as a mentor and promoter. Her personality is one of the most upbeat that any student could ever hope to find and be around. Her studio is one that any student (parents, too!) will want to come to each week and be a part of for years to come.

A voice that sounds like one register. This is what I am able to do for singers of all ages and all styles, and you get that sound live, outside of all the engineering tools used in a recording studio.

I teach the skills needed to bridge your voice (all registers) and help you get the sound you desire in whichever style you choose.

What is done in my studio, starting with the first lesson, is learning the technique of singing in the mask and the use of singing on the breath or "singing on the yawn", breathing "below the belt", and breathing "from the floor". In other words, using the entire body for singing and breathing, not just the upper body, which creates stress and tension on the vocal chords.

The studio of Melissa Black is primarily a vocal teaching studio that specializes in teaching female voices. Melissa trains young voices to prepare for a career in rock, pop, country, R&B, Broadway, etc.

However, there are circumstances where males are more than welcome to train with Melissa on a semi-regular basis -- those preparing for auditions for Idol and/or other comparable competitions, getting ready to make a CD in a recording studio, getting a rock or country band formed and needing vocal coaching on that particular kind of repertoire, etc.

Melissa also plays all kinds of music and is available as a pianist for female, as well as male singers. Melissa had an extensive male client list when teaching in Oklahoma City.

The rates in this studio are also fantastic. I charge $30 for one lesson a week, and the great thing is since I am the pianist/vocal coach for the lesson, as well as the voice teacher of technique and repertoire, there is no need for the extra cost of a pianist for the lesson, and since I also do group lessons, you may add on a friend to your lesson -- that not only is fun for kids and teens, but is also much cheaper on parents.

Music by Melissa is also a recording studio equipped with sound system and CD recorder to record your lessons, etc. onto a CD.

No other studio in Phoenix offers such diverse training for all singers. In other studios, you have to provide your own pianist, but not here. I am the pianist/coach and teacher of technique.

In other studios, you have to sing classical, not here. In this studio, you sing all types of music, all selected by you, the student.

Anyone wanting the title of American Idol, Arizona Idol, etc. needs to be in this studio.
