Question and answer
Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.
A. Anything that relates to family fun entertainment
for children and adults. We specialize in Conventions, Corporate Events, and Trade Show Entertainment for the whole state. We also specialize in Fund Raisers & Church Events.
One of our most popular & still requested shows after all these years is our Famous "Over the Hill Comedy Show" because we created it over 25 years ago! It's really unique and there is nothing else out there like this show. Words simply cannot describe this show because it's something you really have to experience and see to appreciate it! If you have ever been out to the Renaissance Festival out in Apache Junction and have seen the "Deb Bob" Show which is their biggest draw and most popular act out there! Our show is on the same level of comedy as the "deb bob" show. If you like the "deb bob" show then you will love our "Over the Hill Comedy Show"
It's not at all morbid or depressing like people think but it's very comical and a laugh-a-minute! You can see pictures and read all the rave reviews from our customers on our website.
The show involves comedy props and two professional character actors the Grim Reaper & Father Time but we also offer Elvira or Mother Time as an option. The show runs about 40 minutes and it's designed more for a home party setting. We have done this show at resorts, banquet rooms, bars & restaurants, office parties and it's always well received no matter where we go. It's an audience participation type show that involves the whole audience but the center of attention is focused on the birthday person. The ideal age for this show is 40th & 50th but we have done this for 30th, 60th & 70th year olds. If you are looking for something really unique & different that's fun & entertaining then our "Over the Hill Comedy Show" is the perfect choice for your event or party.
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Having the right act and performance for that special occasion. We spend time with the customer to discuss their options. For example I received a last minute call
from a woman who wanted to send her husband for his 50th birthday a singing telegram. She had called another company and she was quite insulted because they were trying to talk her into sending her husband a person dressed in a banana costume! She told me this was a very "upscale" formal high class restaurant in
Paradise Valley. When I found out the restaurant name I was totally shocked that someone would even suggest a costume like that in this particular restaurant so I told her
for that reason alone you will need something really classy & tastefull and I offered her our Marilyn Monroe
impersonator and she totally agreed! Marilyn was very glamorous looking and she wore her best outfit including her vintage white mink stole with all her flashy diamond rings and when she entered the place the whole restaurant came to a complete stand still. The contact commented how stunning she looked
and when she finished her act the whole restaurant applauded her performance. Marilyn commented that if a person came in this classy restaurant dressed in a banana costume it would have been a complete total disaster with no a-peel!
All of our acts are G-Rated clean family oriented
and we don't do any stripping or anything depressing, morbid or degrading.
All of our shows are always family fun, comical, uplifting and more of a celebration of life.
Our impersonators all look, act & sound just like the real thing! Our Dolly Parton & Phyllis Diller look-a-likes look so much like the real thing that when they go out in public people think they are the real deal & want their autographs!
Our motto is:
"SMILES ARE OUR PRODUCT!"
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. CONSUMER TIPS ON SHOPPING FOR VARIETY ENTERTAINMENT:
How to get the most for your hard-earned money.
As a professional entertainer, I receive dozens of phone calls every day from Valley residents who are in search of entertainment for their party or event. Everyone I talk to is concerned about getting the best value for their money when inviting an entertainer to perform at their party or event. Unfortunately, far too many people make the mistake of shopping on the basis of price alone, without considering the differences between the many different entertainers in the Phoenix area.
DON'T SHOP ON THE BASIS OF PRICE ALONE:
Prices of entertainers range from under $100 to several hundred dollars. My experience has shown that there is typically a direct relationship between the quality of the show and the price paid. True Professionals charge a little more because their show reflects years of experience and a large investment in props, costumes and training. A professional's livelihood is based on their reputation for delivering a quality show each and every time. Don't just take the performer's word for it - -
because any amateur hobbyist can label themselves a professional. Be a smart consumer and spend a few minutes asking questions to learn more about the performer's experience, reputation, and training.
THE BOTTOM LINE IS VALUE:
A person's birthday comes only once a year. The savings from hiring an amateur rapidly disappears if that amateur arrives late, or does not even show up, has shabby costuming, or embarrasses you with an underwhelming show. A professional entertainer is your assurance of a fun and memorable experience that you'll remember with pride for years to come. Fond memories are priceless!
Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?
A. When they read all my positive reviews on my website written by real customers that were happy with our service.
Also all my Celebrity Impersonators are local and live in the phoenix area. My Marilyn Monroe, Dolly Parton, Phyllis
Diller, Rodney Dangerfield & Joan Rivers all reside here
in the valley so they won't charge you an arm and a leg because they are local talent and do not live out of state like the others do.
I get emails and calls from other
celebrity impersonators from alll over the United States
that want me to list them on our site, but you have to fly them in, put them up in a hotel, pay their fee and you end up paying hundreds of dollars & more! If they are in such high demand why do they contact me looking for work? Bottom line is book local talent with me and save yourself a lot of money and at the same time get the quality that you deserve.
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. Our Company has built an excellent reputation over the last 35 years in the Phoenix area as an agency who provides top quality family fun entertainment! We produce over 50 performances each week, from single acts to full scale events and custom shows.
Our performers work hard at their craft to attain excellence and to satisfy their audiences, We expect a high standard of excellence from our performers,
both in personality and performance ability. For our efforts and hard work we have been awarded for the past two years in a row "Best of Phoenix" Singing Telegrams and Entertainment category for outstanding service for more that 35 years in the Phoenix Area.
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. It's a good feeling to make others feel good about their Birthday or any occasion and they are always grateful
for making their day such a happy occasion with a big hug of appreciation.
Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A. Q: What is a singing telegram?
A: A singing telegram is more than just a person in a costume showing up and singing a song. It's a professional actor/actress doing a 12-15 minute comedy skit, song & dance routeen as the character of your choice. We offer over 50 comedy & classic unique characters to choose from! We present the recipient with a party hat, a party horn, sing a comedy song for the occasion and work personal information into the verbal part of the show. They also get a souvenir telegram to let them know who it's from, a free gift, and we wrap it up by getting everyone there to sing "Happy Birthday" or "For He's (or She's!) a Jolly Good Fellow".
We're commited to making your special event absolutely unforgettable!
Q: Where can you do a singing telegram?
A: Just about anywhere! We go to homes, offices, schools, and restaurants. It's a good idea to call and make sure it's okay with the boss, the principal, or the management. We use no bad language, but it can get a little noisy with all the laughter and applause! It is also a good idea to have a contact person at the location who knows we are coming but can keep it a surprise for the recipient.
Q: Should I call to confirm my reservation?
A: Once your order is entered into our computer you are all set. Placing an order takes just a few minutes and we give you a confirmation number to reference if you have any questions or need to add something. We always have live operators just waiting for your call Monday through Friday 8:00 AM till 8:00 PM, Saturday 9:00 AM till 6:00 PM. You can call to confirm just to set your mind at ease but it is not necessary.
Q: Are you the same company that I hired a singing telegram from 10 years ago?
A: We have a huge date base customer file on all our customers that goes back about 20 years. We enter each customer and order into our computer which enables us to look that customer up to see what character you had, the performer who performed the service and the date & location and the price you paid.
Q: The performers aren't going to do anything lewd or crude, are they?
A: We have been doing singing telegrams in the Phoenix Area since the '70's. The characters have been evolving as the times have changed. We offer a variety of unique comedy & classic characters to choose from! The shows are designed to make the recepient the center of attention and also entertain the crowd. They are performed by actors/actress who know how to think on their feet and improvise. We are not trying to shock or embarrassing anyone. We use no bad language or rude costuming. Of course, anytime someone is made the center of attention it can be a little embarrassing, so watch out for paybacks!
Q: What guarantee do I have that the person will show up?
A: We use only professional actors/actress, clowns, singers, musicians, etc. We screen our talent carefully. They will show up, and do a wonderful job. Every once in a while a car will break down, or someone might get sick the day of the show. All of our performers have reliable transportation. There are always situations that are beyond our control, but the performer will call you.
Q: How much notice is needed?
A: As much as you can give us! We do provide same day service but advanced reservations are appreciated. (Less gray hair for the office staff!)
Q: Do I tip the performer and how much?
If you feel the service you received was way beyond your expectations then it's entirely up to you. Our performers don't expect a tip but I'm sure they would appreciate one but regardless if you do or not you will still receive the same quality of service from our performers. But if you decide to the normal tip is usually 15-20%
Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?
A. On Mother's Day I was hired to deliver a Singing Telegram dressed in Classic Tux & Tails at the Camelback Inn in Scottsdale at one of the banquet
rooms. When I was leaving a gentleman with a women at his side approached me and he shook my hand and told me what a great job I did and he asked if I had a business card which I gave him one. He thanked me and left with his lady friend. I thought he looked really familiar and then a waiter came up to me and told me that was Tony Bennett and his wife! I was floored that I shook hands and met the real Tony Bennett and that he gave me such a great compliment.
Another fun story to share and I have many. I received a call many years ago from a woman who claimed to be Stevie Nicks and she said she was on tour with Fleetwood Mac and she wanted to send her mom Barbara a Singing Telegram in Paradise Valley since she could not be there to celebrate her 50th. birthday! I thought this is a prank and I did not believe her so I put my wife on the phone to talk to her and as it turned out she really was Barbara Nicks daughter Stevie Nicks and she hired us to go to her Mom's house off Lincoln Drive in Paradise Valley to deliver a singing telegram.
Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?
A. That we are very dependable & reliable in our work and we show up on time and that we pride ourselves on the quality of our performances! We are the only company that offers a "Money Back Guarantee!" And with over 35 years experience in the Phoenix area, we have been fortunate to serve many happy clients. We believe that quality, blended with excellent service, is the foundation for a successful business.
Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?
A. Because there was a need for it!
Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.
A. We are very proud of ALL the work we do! Our many repeat customers always tell us "It's the best they have ever seen"!
We just provided two mimes for a high society event fundraiser here in scottsdale and the two mimes were such a big hit and because of their efforts we got two
huge booking events from that party.
So our goal is we strive to get repeat business when the public see's our performers out in the valley. 50% of all our business is generated from repeat customers and new customers that see our shows. We go through about 1000 business cards each month!
Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.
A. Our prices depend on exactly what type of entertainment they may choose. For example we do a lot of Corporate Events, Conventions, and Trade Shows and they may request Fortune Tellers, Clowns, Magician, Mimes, Caricature Artists, DJ, or One Man Band or even Celebrity Impersonator's for their event, so we can give them a package price on all the entertainment.
Our repeat customers tell us that we provide a very good value for the fee that we charge.
Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?
A. Better have really reliable transportation because you will rack up a lot of miles on your vehicle.
When I first started this business over 35 years ago I tried to do everything myself but after a few years the business grew to big for that and I had to start hiring people to meet the demand!
A lot has changed since then and I now have
a huge data base of over 300 entertainers that reside here in the valley that I draw from. The reason our business has been so sucessful is that I have learned from experience that you never ever reveal any of your trade secrets! And we will never ever lower our standards of quality through acts of desperation.
