Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Make sure they are licensed, bonded and insured. Ask for references and check with the BB to make sure there are not any unresolved complaints against them

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A.
1. Do Your Homework- Go online and compare plumbing companies. Ask around to find out which plumbing company your neighbor used. Use websites like Service Magic and other directories and read customer reviews on a plumber's work and customer service.

2. Get Estimates- Plumbing is a highly skilled and very competitive business. Plumbing can be expensive and if you just hire the first plumber you see in the phone book or online, you may spend more than you need to. Always get more than one estimate, but it may not be a good idea to hire the cheapest company you find; you should also take into consideration experience, customer service and past performance when deciding to hire a plumber and not just the hourly rate.

The best way to select a plumber is on his overall ability to deliver customer satisfaction consistently. Costumer satisfaction takes into account all of these issues and constitutes an accurate indication of value received.

3. Plumbing Maintenance- One of the best ways to save money on plumbing services is to limit the need for a plumber in the first place. If you are careful what goes down your drain and use products to help keep your plumbing system working properly, you may not need to call a plumber as often as someone that neglects their plumbing.

Pay close attention to things like grease build up, hair and other things that can clog your drains. Make sure that all your pipes are in heated spaces. If any are not, make sure they are well insulated. A little preventable maintenance can be the difference in you needing a plumber in the first place.

Consider purchasing a maintenance contract with your plumbing company. If maintained regularly small plumbing problems will never turn into plumbing nightmares. Paying a little now could save you thousands later.

4. Make a Checklist- One of the most costly mistakes someone will make is to forget to mention one of the problems they had and then remember after the plumber leaves. Plumbers charge by the hour and or by the trip, so if they have to return it will cost you more than if they took care of the problem while they were there.

Make notes of everything you want to discuss with the plumber before he gets there, this will save you a lot of money by eliminating the need to call the plumber back for another visit.

5. Install Water Saving Fixtures- Water and sewage treatment cost money. When you reduce water consumption, you can save on both of them. If you have an older water-guzzling toilet and it starts to need repairs, give serious thought to replacing it entirely.

Instead of spending money on what will probably be a continuous string of repairs, invest wisely and get a reliable fixture that will save you money over the long run.

This is also true for faucets and shower heads. Anytime these need attention, consider replacing them with new, water-saving units

Following these basic plumbing steps could mean the difference between major plumbing problems costing you a lot of money or a much less costly repair.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I am a Scottsdale

residentand have been a licensed plumber for the

past 15 years.

During that time, I have worked hard to build my

reputation as an authority in the plumbing industry

and have provided plumbing services for the

greater Phoenix Area since 1996.

Together with my wife, Cheyenne Belsito, we

founded Belsito Plumbing LLC in 2004 and have

been servicing the greater Phoenix Metro area

since that time.

A licensed plumber since 1994, I started in the

business working for the family plumbing business

(Belsito & Sons Plumbing) in New York in 1984.

Building on the values that I learned from my

father, such as quality, trust and reliability, I

have built a business that is committed to

100% customer satisfaction.

Belsito Plumbing is proud to be the plumbing

company of choice for several local corporations,

such as the Coca-Cola offices in Phoenix, US Airways,

Verizon Wireless and Sun Western Homes, just to

A. What is pipe bursting?

Pipe bursting is a trenchless method of replacing buried pipelines (such as sewer, water, or natural gas pipes) without the need for a traditional construction trench. "Launching and receiving pits" replace the trench needed by conventional pipe-laying.

An expanding device called an expander head, which may be either pneumatic or hydraulic, is introduced into the defective pipeline through a launching pit. As it travels through the pipeline toward the receiving pit it breaks the pipe into many small pieces, pushing the pieces into the surrounding soil. New pipe is attached to the back of the expander head, replacing the line immediately.

Pipe bursting and related techniques are well-established methods for trench-less replacement of worn out and undersized gas, water or sewer pipelines. They can offer significant potential savings and drastically reduced surface disruption to public and private utility owners under favorable conditions. The methods result in an existing pipe being replaced size-forsize or up-sized with a new pipe in the same location.

Pipe Bursting is most advantageous in cost terms:
(1) when there are few lateral
(2) when the old pipe is structurally deteriorated
(3) when additional capacity is needed
(4) when restoration/environmental mitigation requirements are burdensome

This no dig method will allow replacement of the old line under garages, streets, landscaping, buildings, alleys and so much more, with little disturbances and little disruption in services.

A. What Do I Do for Frozen Pipes?

Q: Recently the weather dropped below freezing for a few days. When we came home from work, we noticed we had no water coming from our kitchen sink. I checked all other faucets, and they are fine. Is there a way to unthaw the pipes without having to tear into the wall?

A: There is no easy solution or quick fix for frozen pipes. The wall where the pipe is frozen needs to be heated from both sides (tented on the outside if necessary).

The real problem lies in the fact that if the pipe is frozen it is more than likely cracked also. So, once defrosted you're left with a broken and flooding pipe in the wall.

You need to call a professional plumber who will more than likely need to open the wall from one side, find the frozen area, defrost it, repair the crack and test it.

Then you will need to insulate the pipe and wall cavity and patch the wall. The problem will persist in all uninsulated exterior wall cavities where pipe is run, so plan ahead and schedule the work to start this spring.

A. What is Kitchen Hood Cleaning?

Kitchen Hood Cleaning

kitchen hoods, kitchen exhaust hood

Oven vents and fans are a nice addition to your kitchen. When cooking something particularly pungent (or when accidentally cooking to the point of charring), your oven vent is there to reduce lingering odors and suck away smoke. To keep your stove vent running at peak performance, you need to clean your over-the-stove vent hood periodically. Below are some tips on how to turn this dirty job into an easy one.

Range Hood Cleaning: Filter Cleaning and Replacing
When it comes time for a good cleaning, range hood filters may be removed and soaked in a degreasing solution until the grease is dissolved. Wash them in soapy water to remove any traces of the degreaser. Also, a filter may be put in the upper rack of the dishwasher and run through a normal cycle. If you are located in Phoenix Arizona Belsito Plumbing can professionally clean your Kitchen hood.

Some stove vent systems actually circulate the air rather than suck it outside. These types of systems may have one or more activated charcoal filters which must be replaced when they lose their effectiveness.

Interior Range Hood Cleaning
The unit must be turned off before being cleaned. Also avoid spraying cleaner directly onto the light bulb or light bulb socket. You can clean the interior of the vent hood with a standard household degreaser/cleaner and a sponge or rag; it will probably get quite dirty, so make sure to use something that you don't mind throwing away afterward.

Exterior Oven Vent Cleaning
The exterior of a vent hood may also be cleaned with a standard household degreaser/cleaner or a non-abrasive cleanser. Since exterior range hood cleaning is a lot easier to do, you may want to incorporate it into your daily or weekly cleaning routine. If your vent hoods have never been cleaned, you may want to call in a professional to do the job the first time, as it is very likely that it will be pretty messy.

Stove Vent Problems and Repairs
Excessive grease and grime trapped in your vent hoods, years of neglect, and other factors can cause your oven ventilation system to malfunction. Unlike periodic range hood cleaning, things like improper function or odd noises during operation should probably be handled by a professional.

Kitchen exhaust cleaning (often referred to as "hood cleaning") is the process of removing grease that has formed on the walls of ducts, hoods, fans and vents in restaurant kitchen exhaust systems.
