FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
During the course of a year, I take continuing education courses involving specialty therapies within the realm of hypnotherapy. Generally they are seminars that are 6 to 8 hours of material plus study. The range of application, and therefore specialized skills, for hypnotherapy is so vast that I cannot imagine you would ever run out of things to try or get better at.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I spent 10 years in 911 rescue services, and loved the experience of helping people. Often they were in crisis mode, totally overloaded, and I knew instinctively how to bring them through. In time I became aware that my greatest asset was my ability to perceive the mental state a patient was in and how my reaction to their situation could positively affect their outcome. When youre hurting, its very powerful to know that someone is there pulling for you. Years later I witnessed a coworker and dear friend go through severe mental abuse in the workplace at the hands of a superior. Over the course of a year, I helped them through that period and saw them safely past it. I realized that I had the instincts and empathy to help others in this way, as I had with an ambulance and emergency medicine. I researched and settled on hypnosis as the best means to accomplish that, and it has been everything to me I had hoped it would be.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Look for a hypnotherapist who has attended a nationally accredited college, and who is certified in hypnotherapy.
