Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Beware of the "Invasion of the Locksmith Scammers".

Anyone quoting a mobile service charge of less than $30-40 is likely to upcharge you on other services that they perform. A common tactic is to tell consumers "$x.00 to come out plus labor." The scammers will never want to commit to a "complete job" price.

If someone comes out and immediately tells you that you have very special locks that have to be drilled and refuses to give you a written quote for the entire job ahead of time is likely a scammer.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Lots of secrets, unfortunately our industry code of ethics prohibits us from sharing most. Probably the least publicized problem is the scammer issue above. See: http://TheLocksmithPolice.com for more information.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. Are you licensed and bonded?
Are you a member of the Associated Locksmiths of America?
How long have you been a locksmith?
Do you have any proficiency ratings?
