Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Makeup Applications, Private Makeup Lessons,Weddings, TV and Film Production: Fox, ESPN and CNN live spots out of local TV studio

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Consider going to them if they have thier own studio or makeup space VS on location service as it is more cost effective than to ask for a location service for 1 person. Consider a group only for desired location requests.
Compare price but do not look for cheapest !
If a few with experience are similar then you know that is current rate for the market. Beginners trying to gian clients by cutting rates, experienced will stay close to a market rate for the quality service.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. Experience, web site, photos.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. What time they need to be dressed and ready, travel time needed, staying power, event style, personal style, individual is cost effective in studio, group best for location services pricing. Time needed per person, timming of group VS time to be done.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. Experience of years doing a lot of styles of people and different events. Keying into personal and individual styles, not being a TREND style makeup artist but a personl style artist. Not what is IN but what is good on them !
Ability to blend to create a flawless refined beautiful makeup. Ability to custom blend foundation, concealer and powder.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. No 2 faces are alike, always some one or something new to create. Corrective makeup theory ability over marketing trends. I have owned and operated my own busiess in this industry for years and like the ability to have my own studio, line of products and flexability to travel. Be in my studio some days and out on location others, performing quality work.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Avalability, price and the desire for a more nautural look. I have a makeup studio, line of custom blended cosmetics and 30 years of ex[erience. I have a solid business and great reputation so availability is best a few weeks out or in studio VS location. In studio reg. makeup application is 48.00, 60.00 for photo Makeup, 70.00 for Bride.

I go out on location for a minimum of 2 people or 220.00.
My studio or location rates are very competetive and reasonable for the quality and experience level.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. The men that shutter from the makeup...but will rarely let me take it off afterwards !! They see how good they look and make an excuse...Oh I'll go wash later ...or I have to show my wife. When I could hardlty get them in the chair prior.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. It is not that easy as it seems to be a good makeup artist. Blending, layering and style incorporates all art forms: color theory, texture and style. A good makeup artist works hard at " breaking down their hand " to do a refined good looking makeup. It seems easier than it really is.
It is a trade that you can only get good at by doing A LOT of faces and working thru these art areas by trial and error. So experience really matters.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. My family owned a salon, I went to beauty school while waiting to get into an architecture program and met my makeup mentor there: she was a Biologist, Chemist and Model starting her own line of custom blended products. I worked for and with her for 13 years, she passed on and I re-created what we had in my own business with a family name.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. International show each year,
I mentor or train myself to help others gain knowledge.

Q. Describe your most recent project, what it involved, how much it cost, and how long it took.

A. Wedding: trial run for Bride in my studio. Timing of day, location to prep, time to be dressed and ready to travel to ceremony, set bride times and starting time for group with proper set up time, directions and needs for set up.
Confirmed with paperwork and prepaid for group of 8 photo makeup w/ eyelashes on location in May = 630.00

Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

A. In Studio pricing VS on location.
See web site www.palminaleone.com

Groups- On Location: A one time travel fee of 95.00 then an individual per person price plus eye lashes seperately.

Production or Film rates are:
Half day 295.00

Hourly @ 65.00 (port to port)

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. Mentor with a proffesional, private training. Counter bar for a retailer to do a lot of faces, get some training servicing in general and working on all types of people, skin and age appropriate makeup. Advance classes in and out of state.
apprentice for a minimum of 1.5- 2 years behind a very experienced makeup artist.

Q. What are you currently working on improving?
