In addition to conducting workshops and classes at a Phoenix area community college, I'm also a photographer of nature, travel, sports, and portraits.

I specialize in the photo journalism style of photography. What does that mean? I like to capture unposed moments best of all.

Question and answer

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Gee, this is a communication business! Make people happy by listening carefully and responding quickly to those needs and concerns. I love photography because it makes people happy. In a very close sense, it is like why I like being a college professor... it is the compliment I get that will keep me going for weeks!

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I catch people doing unexpected things. I work fast. My vision is 360 degrees. And I bring passion to whatever I do. When I teach, you'll feel that passion, too.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. A camera allows me in to the most interesting and unusual places! There is a certain power associated with using a professional camera... as a young lady said to me at a wedding I did recently, "No, I want the guy with the big one!" So Uncle Charlie and his flash blaster camera was cut out of that shot.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. How can I buy a print of that photo? I send them to my website and then we can talk about the type of print, the size, that sort of thing.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. CONSTANTLY! I am an education junkie, I admit it. As a college professor, I'm always worried the students will get ahead of me, especially in technology, so I push myself to keep current. The same is true in photography. I bet I spend in total a good 14 days a year at LEAST in continuing photography education. And as an instructor of photography, it does me good to be a student now and then.
