Shane is a plumber but i think he should buy a new truck.
he insisted i use his parts.not home depot, and would not warranty his work
if i did not buy his the parts he had on his work van.

I Just had Shane install a new reverse osmosis system under my kitchen sink. Ive been looking into getting one for some time now.
i am the type of person to research a home improvement like this
    to a great extent.
would like to inform you that Shane installed a very high quality unit
and did an excellent job with the installation.
i demanded set price, he charged me as quoted
i asked for model numbers, and warranty information, and he provided
you cant buy this caliber of R.O. unit in any big box store..... period.
two other plumbing company s stopped answering my calls
if you cant answer 100% of my concerns, then you get 0%
    of my business

Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Drain cleaning and leaks
water heater, garbage disposals
valve repair, toilet repair
typically after your first decade doing plumbing service it all becomes ''common''

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. My phone number is... Just joking
do your home work. Not just on the contractor, but the job itself.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. the whole ideal behind "flat Rate" pricing.
most people don't need a plumber on a regular basis,
so they go with "flat rate" or ''pay by the job not by the hour''company.... in order to know the cost before the work starts.
they end up excepting a price that ''seemed a little high
at the time''to get it fixed and to avoid the $50 dollar service charge.
then after they see the work involved they do some research and a little math. and find they really got hammered.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. My phone number
job location
the problem
call back number
best time for the customer

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I guess it matters more when you own the company.
i like to fix plumbing, it my ideal of a good time.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. all of it. i like the ideal of owning my own company,
if i ever get to the point where I'm working 8 to 10 hours a day. ill be making some pretty good money for some one with out a collage degree.... its got some serious potential.
thankfully Ive been in the business long enough that the day to day trials of being a service plumber don't bug me.
some guys really hate this kind of work.. i love it

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Why did it break / plug up?
how long you been plumbing?

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. Yep, give me a call ill come over and spin you a yarn or two.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. The cost involved with being licensed bonded and insured, has a lot to do with why plumbing cost what it does. Also with out plumbing, civilization as we know it
would not exist. Think about a city the size of phoenix
without toilets, sinks or showers.
you would do your business in a bucket and throw it in the street... Unsanitary

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. Dad was a plumber. Union local 467
so it all started when i was a kid needing a few bucks on summer vacation

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. I'm proud of all of them,
the job is not done unless its something you can be proud of.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. Yes, our plumbing suppliers have different reps come in
to tout their latest products
they sucker you in with free pizza
i like to watch to products for a few years to see if they hold up in the field.

Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

A. Pex, and its happening right now
good bye copper.
tank-less and solar hot water.

Q. Describe your most recent project, what it involved, how much it cost, and how long it took.

A. Today,l did some typical repairs for a restaurant
fixed a faucet, ran a drain, repaired some indirect waste lines
parts $100
labor@65hr x 3hr
tax
total= about 300 bucks

Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

A. Parts and labor
if you need more than that
i can give you a "not to exceed price"
or a ball park figure
of an estimate
i can do it on the phone too

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. Don't learn the tricks of the trade, learn the trade.

Q. Write your own question and answer it.

A. Do ever want to fill out anther on line questionnaire? No, not really.
