Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Look for prompt, polite, professionalism. Expect quality and to be fully satisfied!

Make sure the provider is insured and can give you references. Never pay for a job until it is complete.

We have picked up debris from many customers who had already paid a provider for service but they failed to come back as promised to complete the job.

Ask up front how charges are calculated. Does the provider charge for the trip, for an estimate, or extra fees if the items are not placed by the curb? Will they take away all of the junk you have as well as donation items or recycling items in the same trip? What charities do they support with donated items? How do they make sure you will be happy they came?

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Reputable hauling companies are unable to remove paint, liquids, or hazardous materials. However, these items can often be disposed of easily by a homeowner when they are not accepted at the disposal facility from a commercial hauler.

Paint can be donated to habitat for humanity or other building materials re-use centers in quantity. Paint can be properly disposed of as trash if allowed to dry and harden. Take of the lid and wait several days or weeks or purchase a powdered hardener at Lowe's or Home Depot to speed up the process. Once it is hard, it can go in the can with normal trash.

Auto parts houses will accept used motor oil for recycling as well as batteries, etc.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. Do you provide a 2-hour appointment window so I am not kept waiting all day?

Do you provide all of the labor or do I have to load the junk myself?

Are you licensed and insured?

Are employees back-ground checked so I can trust them to enter my home?

How are rates calculated? Are the rates all-inclusive or are there any hidden labor or disposal costs?

Do you have any BBB complaints?

How long have you been in business?

Have you removed xxxx before? Do you have the necessary tools and experience for this job?

What forms of payment do you accept? Will you provide a receipt?

Are employees and vehicles identified by uniform and logos?

A. I have 5 children. I was traveling too much in the technology industry and wanted to be home more often.
