Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. The primary focus is always to get your business website ranked as high as possible with the major search engines.
The next most common assignment is creating Facebook business accounts and additional Facebook pages with search terms that match their particular business needs.
The possibilities are endless, concerning social media and seo.
The most common type of job (or situation that the business owner is in), is that they have a website built, and the web designer (almost) always talks them into also being their (over-priced) seo service. They have a Facebook site, and they think they are "set", and don't understand why they are not getting ranked very high on Google. 99% of the time they have been ripped-off by a seo service before I ever talk to them.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. There are no providers that do what I do, and take the approach that I take. Like I mentioned in an earlier question, my clients have usually been ripped-off by a so-called search engine optimization service, before I see them for the first time ( unfortunately, it is usually their web designer who convinces them that they are the seo experts ). That's like saying a fireman makes the best police officer. They are two different specialties.
Unfortunately, real seo work does not pay very well, because there is so much time involved.
It should be a red flag when an seo company takes your money, and then wants to go back to their office to do all of the "work", or they have "magic software" that does all of the seo work for them. Run, don't walk, from both of these scenarios.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. Because it actually works. It is also a misconception that others "do what I do", no one has the personal blog network that I have.
My ego is on the line, more than the money factor. I compete against any other business in your field, if you hire me.
Once hired, I am on your side to get you ranked as high as possible and to increase net profit for your business. That's the bottom line.
I need to actually back up what I am claiming, by getting your company to dominate the search results.
I have satisfied clients that know that their new google ranking (google in particular), is what has substantially grown their business.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Competing against other businesses in the search result "war"...and it is a battle, and it's not an overnight victory.
Helping an ethical business improve is what this job is all about.
I also like the part of the business where I can also educate the clients about the industry. What are the "red flags", why your website designer is seldom the best choice for search engine optimization, etc.
Unfortunately, most business owners have already had a bad experience with a web designer that sold them on the idea that they would also do their seo work and get them ranked at the top of page 1 of Google (but of course, after several months of waiting, the desired results never came through).

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. How long will it take.
Answer; 1 week minimum, full-time, 8 hours per day.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. I took a struggling moving company ( very close to losing their business) and within one week I had them dominating the Google search results for their particular area of expertise.
Revenue went through the roof and their business was saved.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. Somewhat by accident. I needed to promote my personal blogs about motor sports (to find an investor), so I learned by trial and error ( and more hours than I would like to admit ), and I found what works and what doesn't work.
I also discovered there are a lot of myths concerning search engine optimization.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. The best "school" is keeping an open mind for learning, and spending a lot of time on the internet (including anything related to social networking).
Realistic, effective search engine optimization is NOT related to website design, computer or software engineering...the seo "rules" and principles are changing constantly.
All of my search engine optimization knowledge is self-taught, and excellent results were attained through trial/error and experimentation, (and a LOT of hours).

Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

A. I can't really answer this question in detail or I would be giving away my trade secrets.
Give me a call and we'll discuss your needs and I will let you know if I can help you.
This question is not the best one of the bunch. If I really did have the next "facebook" idea, would I publish it on thumbtack ? No, I would not.

I hope that the general (business) population finally learns that web design, computer programming, software development experts, etc. are not search engine optimization experts. They are completely different fields.
I did mention one idea that I had, in a previous question. The one with the copyright warning.

Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

A. The easiest pricing system available. straight-forward and honest. I focus on one client at a time.
No one can actually duplicate my SEO tactics, but most services charge a high price and juggle 20 or more clients at a time.
I am also available for work outside of metro Phoenix, and Arizona.

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. Decide if you want to be a website designer, computer engineer, etc., or do you want to be in search engine optimization (because they are completely different fields), and this is what most people do not realize.
Your web designer is seldom the best choice for search engine optimization. They are completely different specialties.
That is my advice. There is too much that goes into each field for someone to do both.

Q. Write your own question and answer it.

A. Question: With the success of Facebook, what is going to be the next big "trend" in social networking ?

Answer: I actually have a great idea that will be the next trend in social media. It is (almost) guaranteed that people will go in this direction. I need an investor to fund legally protecting the idea, and then we can go from there. Please email; visionn2action@yahoo.com with "Don Pentecost's Next Social Site Trend" in the subject line.
If we don't hurry with my invention, then It will probably be something that Google has in the works.
Twitter is pretty stupid, and has too many limitations, but it does have an seo function. Twitter is quick and easy to get a unique url, and to repeat the linking process over and over, without penalty.
Facebook will eventually fade, but for now it's extremely strong.
