Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I try to find out the style that the customer likes (sometimes they are not even aware of what they like) and create something which reflects their taste and lifestyle. I always incorporate things that customer has collected or are already existing into a design plan which considers the taste of the client. I am not a designer who believes in throwing everything out and starting from scratch. An eclectic mix of things is often good -- rather than sticking to everything completed in just one style. The best thing about my job are the interesting people I meet -- who are trying to achieve their vision of living in a home which reflects their taste and style. Each person I meet is completely different, and styles and tastes are also very different -- so each new client brings a new challenge and an opportunity to do something different every time.

“I hired Laurie to help us when we moved into a house that was bigger than all of the furniture we had previously acquired. Her design sense is fantastic. She was able to pick complementary accessories even before she saw the place based on our descriptions. She then re arranged our art and furniture to best work in the space. She listened to our input, and was able to translate our desires into appropriate design. I would not hesitate to use her again, particularly on a remodel, or upgrade to an existing place. I have reviewed her portfolio and really like what she has done for others.”

I worked with Laurie to completely redesign and decorate my new condo. She was very thorough, spending significant preparation time with me to determine my preferences and style before making recommendations and acquiring the items. She is extremely dedicated and knowledgeable and has a keen eye for color, placement and proportion. She was a pleasure to work with; her commitment and dedication provided a remarkable result that was well within my budget.

FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

The most common type of job in these days is a kitchen or bath remodel. Updating your kitchen or bathroom is an easy way to give your home a new look. It is fairly easy to do one of these room remodels without disrupting your whole interior. Once done, however, you may love it so much you may wish to continue with your remodel throughout your home!

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Ask for recommendations from friends for interior designers they've worked with and liked. Check the credentials of the designer you interview -- make sure they belong to an organization like ASID, IIDA and/or NKBA. Interview several designers and pick the one which seems most suited to your project, comes with good recommendations, and one that you have chemistry with! Chemistry is very important, as most jobs last 2-3 months depending on the scope. It is beneficial to have a good personal connection. You will need to trust this person and feel comfortable. Ask yourself, are they good communicators and easy to talk to; do they understand your needs, wants, goals and budget? One thing to bear in mind: HGTV projects are not reality!!!! A design is not conceived and completed in a few minutes at the drafting table, and a kitchen is not renovated in a weekend. Furniture lead times can vary from 3 weeks to 14 weeks. The design process and implementation requires time, planning and expertise to execute. A designer will be able to provide you with a realistic schedule and time line of the process.
