I have a 2008 dodge caliber I needed the ac compressor replaced on. Bruce did the job and stated that he flushed the lines and did all required for the ac to work properly. The ac worked great for about 3 days then I had a terrible noise and no more ac. I called Bruce and he wanted more money to replace the compressor again. I had someone else do the repair work and we found that the lines were extremely contaminated and the system had built so much pressure it twisted off the shaft and cracked the compressor casing. I have since had to replace my entire system with Bruce claiming no fault. Be very careful when using him.

Horrible. First impression was great. Fixed my A.C. I have raw gas smell in and around my car. He said it must be coming from Fuel injector area, 'cause there's some gas staining. Charged me $330 for Fuel injector o-rings to be put in and said it took "4" hours. Even if it did take 4 hours, kit costs about $50 total. He will not fix the problem. I still have the same fumes as I did when I took it there. DONE!

Bruce W. from Auto5starz replied to this review on September 5, 2013:

You were charged $60.00 for initial Diag. on fuel system for the smell of gas. You agreed to this!
The fuel injectors were not stained, They had fuel running down the outsides of 3 of them as the engine was running. Luckily you didn't have a FIRE!
I called you & told you that this was an obvious problem That needed to be attended to First & that it May or May not be the only problem! And yes, You agreed to this as well and told me to "go ahead & that we'll hope this is all it is going to need!"
The cost breakdown was: 1. O-ring set = about $18.50, 2.The Intake gasket set was $21.88, & you were charged $230.00 labor for the R&R Upper intake, remove clean & replace O-rings & reinstall.
Than when the smell came back 24 Hrs. later, You refused to look in to it any further .
I wasn't charging any more labor to look at it again, But I told you we would have to take it into a shop to have it smoke tested & That would run about $100.00

Was quoted $200 just for labor to install water pump in 1998 Pontiac. Other sources were $60 to $125. Ended up going with a certified legitimate Mobile man for $105, Carter @anyplace auto repair. He told me it was a 1.5 hr job. I even got a receipt and warranty. Bruce was charging way to high, as high as a dealer would have. I advise to check prices as Bruce would have charged double. My advice CHECK others before using Bruce.

Bruce W. from Auto5starz replied to this review on July 13, 2013:

The $200 Was a parts & labor Quote, NOT JUST LABOR! That also included a 20.00 Trip charge as he was across Phoenix.
I Also give a full break down receipt of P&L WITH WARRENTY!!!!!!!!!!!
He was just upset that I couldn't come do it that evening, after working form 7:00 Am that morning !

I have to start by saying, I was nervous about hiring someone from the internet just based on this site and meeting them with my daughter. We live in Missouri and needed to pick up my mother-in-laws car in AZ. She is in assisted living so it had not been started or driven in 3 years. My husband contacted Bruce, went so far as making arrangements for him to pick up the keys, to see what the car needed to make the drive back to MO, if this was even possible. I asked my husband if he expected the car to even be there when we arrived since he gave the keys to a complete stranger. My husband is an optimist, I'm always skeptical. Bruce, exceeded my expectations, was very trustworthy & extremely competent. He charged the battery over night before we arrived the next day. It would not hold a charge. He met us at the vehicle location, installed a new battery, checked and aired up the flat tires, tested and adjusted the chemistry of the old gas, put new wipers on (it rained on us on our way home), checked the vehicle mechanics from top to bottom, and drove it to check the safety & reliability. It was blazing hot while he worked outside on this vehicle. I never write reviews, but Bruce, in my opinion, is one of a kind . . . competent, trustworthy, & reasonably priced. I would highly recommend him.

We contacted Bruce when our 2007 Camry would not start. He was able to come to our house in a prompt manner, and quickly identified what was wrong with the car (starter). He replaced the starter, cleaned all battery connections, and had us back on the road quickly. He charged us a reasonable price, and was polite and professional. We would recommend Bruce and we will use him again in the future. Thank you Bruce, for doing a great job!

Bruce came to me last month and saved me a bunch of money with my A/c in my Mercury Grand Marquis. Very professional and clean, does what he says and also sent me a check up reminder after 30 days like he said he would. I'm glad i found him and i'll refer him to my friends.

  • 5/5 stars March 26, 2011

Bruce inspected my just purchased 99 van, and found that I didn't need an A/C Compressor as told by the old owner. He then found some details I missed, that were crucial to traveling safely. He also did a brake adjustment, instead of telling me I needed an unnecessary full brake job with new rotors, (which is what most brake shops would do). His honesty and fair prices are rare to find these days. He actually wants his customers to come back, and I definitely will.

We are very pleased with the work Bruce has done on our truck. He worked around our schedule and got the repairs done in a timely manner. Bruce also would let us know about repairs that could be done in order to head off more costly ones down the road.

I have and will continue to recommend Bruce as a mechanic to all my friends and family.

  • 5/5 stars February 15, 2011

Bruce is a terrific mechanic! the service was prompt and his prices flexible. i recommended bruce's services to my friends! you should all do the same! if you need repair work done and your sick of auto-repair shops holding your wallet hostage, call the man! call bruce!

I have used Bruce on two different occasions. He definitely knows cars and and gives you an honest price. Today (Sunday) I called Bruce after my car suddenly wouldn't start and wasn't able to be jump started. We figured it was the starter. The car was in the parking lot of Home Depot. Bruce met me at my car within a few hours, ran a few tests to confirm the problem and then pulled out the starter, we went to Checker to get a replacement and he installed in right there in the parking lot. No extra towing fees, no reciting shop hours, no extra charges on the parts, no up charges for going the extra mile. It was like calling on a good friend to help you and simply compensating them for their time. I hate car problems but they go with the territory - thanks Bruce, I will be back and refer others.

Bruce came out, showed up when he said he would and diagnosed my problems and got it fixed on the first visit. My rod runs great. Finally, a Technician I can trust!

Bruce did a great job on my truck a/c. An r-12 to r-134 conversion. Works great. He gave me an overall evaluation of how my 20 year old pickup was doing and suggested to keep an eye on a couple of things. I wouldn't hesitate for a second about having him work on any of my cars. I'll be recommending Bruce to my friends and neighbors, too. Pat.

I took my Jeep Cherokee for a convertion from r-19 to r34 and Bruce knew exactly what do do and described the work he was going to perform and I scheduled an appointment and was very happy how bruce administered himself, very professionally and did the job in the time he told us and we are very happy and satisfied with our overall experience. I reccomed him on any AC work.

I am so glad I found Auto5starz ! The repair man (Bruce) has given me excellent service. Bruce has even come to my house to fix my vehical. He has been straight forword and told me at times that some of the items I was told I needed (pryor to going to him) are not needed. Bruce is very honest. He is also very patient with me and explains why things are needing to be serviced, and the mechanics of everything. Rather than paying the outragous prices of the other auto repair places, Bruce has saved me hundreds of dollars. I highly recommened Bruce ( Auto5starz ) and his expertise with american and foreign automobiles. Sincerely...David Calli

A. Q. How much will it cost to .......?
A. Let me Take a look at it to make sure that's what you need, Then I'll see just how much I can Save You!

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A.
Twice now I Have Had a Customer Call me that had Hired Someone to fix their car that had quit running. The "mechanic" ? came out & advised them that they Needed a new timing belt & charged them $180. - $230. for replacing the belt.
Once it was installed & they had their money they Told the Vehicle owner, "oh ya, by the way You may have
another problem with the motor, & I can't do it !
Well, It's called an interference motor & if the timing belt lets go while driving Most, if not all of the Valves hit the Pistons and bends the valves! ( A True mechanic-tech knows this)
So Now You have to pay someone, (like me) to take off the new timing belt, Remove the cyl. head, & take it to the machine shop to have it rebuilt with new Valves, reinstall the head & Timing belt in order to get it to run again.

This could run $1,200. & UP ! PLUS THE MONEY YOU PAiD THE FIRST GUY THAT TOOK YOUR MONEY & RAN !

Moral of the story is, Don't go for CHEAPEST, Look for Experience & Reliability, & some one you can trust !

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. Last spring, I was contacted by a Customer I'll call Sam!
Sam had acquired himself the 1950 Bronze Chevy shown in my pictures, with me at the wheel. I was hired to get the brake system back in working order. The repairs consisted of Rebuilding the Frame mounted - under car Master Cyl. , replacing the brake shoes on all four wheels, Seals, & four Wheel Cylinders.
It was a Fun & Challenging experience But, worth every minute to be able to service a fine Specimen of Automotive History!
We toped off the brake work with a full Fluid change & General Service.
This next week of 1/10/11 I will be back over @ Sam's to See what we can do to get the original Radio working
or replacing it with one of three others he has until we get it to work !

:)
