A. Always meet the prospective "person" face to face before agreeing to anything. Always get at least 2 references, and be sure to call them before agreeing to anything. Always get a written agreement/contract for the work being done.
A. That sometimes, things can be unforeseen. Many times when you begin a project, things "beneath the surface" are found that can alter the project entirely. This is not an unusual occurance, and it doesnt mean your contractor is trying to "pad the bill". A good honest contractor will inform you of the issues as they arise and try to work out a plan to include into the project with a minimum of cost.
A. You should always ask 1st for references. Ones you can call, or go by and look at the work performed. Are they insured, Licensed, have pictures of previous projects? How long have they been in business? Do they perform the work themselves, or do they "sub" it out to others?
A. I am a professional. All my work is completed in a professional manner. I have 30 years exp. in the residential services field. Considered by most to be a Master Tradesman /Craftsman. References are available upon request.
A. Getting to know my clients. So many of them have become friends as well. I enjoy teaching them about things around their home that they can do themselves as well. Many times I've "assisted" over the phone, or "stopped by" to lend a technical hand as they fix things themselves!
A. That it takes several years to learn how to do the things I do. I stay up on the latest trends in both products and service, to better serve my clients. It isnt always as simple as people believe it should be, and some have found that out by trying to do things themselves!
A. Pricing for projects varies widely by the type of project it is. A simple project such as cleaning out gutters, requires very little skill. While replacing a water heater, or installing recessed lighting require a good deal of skill. That's why the "bill" for some things seems more "expensive" than maybe you think it should!
